New research has identified nerve pathways that relay pain signals from bowel to brain, paving the way for new IBS and IBD treatments. 🧠

Lead author Dr Andrea Harrington says the findings revealed two distinct neural pathways in the spinal cord acting as “gatekeepers”.

A new report from the ANZDATA Registry has revealed that dialysis services are at breaking point for kidney patients.

Many nephrology units have warned they can no longer provide timely or adequate dialysis to patients, leaving them in possible harm.

SAHMRI's latest autophagy research has had an unexpected result, finding that eating a high-protein meal doesn’t immediately decrease autophagy. 🧬

While blood amino acid and insulin levels rose as expected, there was no detectable change in autophagic flux.

Check out our new paper! We tested whether a high protein milkshake would suppress #autophagy measured in human blood after 1 hour. Surprisingly we got a negative result, despite clear metabolic responses. @sahmri.bsky.social @jci-insight.bsky.social
