I do think it's funny that one of the benches says "how do you garbage?" instead of "how do you do?"

Iu diris al mi - ĝuste hieraŭ - ke Tvitero estis bona loko por Esperanto eĉ nun (krom la detalo ke Tvitero estas malbona loko). Kaj ke ne estas vere internacia alternativo.

I have had the same thought - when I was in 5th or 6th grade. The lesson I learned at school was that the inventor of Esperanto thought there were too many languages - so his solution? Invent one more.

Brilliant.

But that's not what makes Esperanto special.

I doubt it's a million speakers - but there are enough people actually using Esperanto in 2025 that it feels strange to say that Esperanto has not gained traction.

> Apparently competent practitioners had problems with their accents

This is true (from the viewpoint of a "competent practitioner") - but I'll add that while I hated the film for a long time, it has grown on me. The ending kind of sucks.... well, except for the goat. The goat fixes everything.

Ĝuste.

"Mi volus havan infanon" - which in actual Esperanto is:
"Mi volas havi infanon" - which means "I want to have a child."

Pretty unique. :-)

The language in the film really is unique - in that it's not actually Esperanto. There was something very similar to Esperanto in the script, but what's on the screen is unique.

Also unique were the subtitles when Marco tells the demon that he "wants to do things the right way". He actually said:

This is a trick question. All Esperanto words have an interesting etymology.

Mi pensas, ke Macbeth estis en la klingona.
December 21, 2025 at 12:15 PM
That's a great line.

True story - I was brought in to coach a local acting company in proper Esperanto pronunciation for Julia Cho's "The Language Archive". Shortly before, and perhaps unrelated, I tried to check out an Esperanto book from the library and it was already checked out!

I thought you'd be interested to know that my friend has a custom made can of Campbells soup in his cupbord -- with the label entirely in Esperanto.
