We were there a long time ago. It was busy but (like e.g. Barcelona) not that "I have to get out of here now before I panic" thing. The Sistine Chapel was so quiet that I was able to -- without getting screamed at or trampled -- lie down to allow me to actually take a few photos.

Now? No chance.

It may have something to do with the fact that I'm old :)

The system we met on was called CIX here in the UK; an early conferencing system. For our sins we've followed each other though the decades between many & varied networks, many of which have since disappeared.

CIX is still going I believe.

Truth. There are (a small number of) people here on Bluesky that I've been online friends with since the 1980s.

I read that as "kidney brain". Which is a thing. I hope.

Rice. Plus pretty much anything.

Actually, I must thank you for suggesting the plotline for my next story.

I depend on others telling me, to be sure :)

At my age, I always claim that as a good result.

(in fact, waking up & remembering who I am, is the main one)

All of the Labour PLP today.

"Yes, always voted for a ceasefire, me. Always. "

Jonathan Ashworth: "I've wanted to see a ceasefire for 2 years"

The collective position of the Labour shadow cabinet (which you were part of) for months after October 7th was to reject a ceasefire & Labour instructed its MPs not to vote for a ceasefire in Nov 2023.

Like Fahad, I'm not sure what will happen and hope the genocide is stopped.

I just don't believe anyting that Trump or the Israeli monsters say.

The only people whose opinion matters on this peace deal are the people of Gaza, many of whom are cautiously optimistic. It is hard to be genuinely hopeful as a Palestinian, but I pray that the ceasefire holds and that Israel does not renege on the agreement.

Turns out that when Americans said "If it weren't for us you'd be speaking German now..." their objection was to learning a second language, not fascism.

When you could code silly quizzes on Facebook, it was FULL of "what would you be in medieval times?!" etc.

I made one that nearly always answered "died as a child", "died in childbirth", "lived and died as a servant"

People got SUPER mad with it.

Everyone assumes they'll be at the top of the tree

The subtext of ‘we should be more like Dubai’, beyond the obvious racism, is ‘I should have a servant’.

I hear you; I was lucky that our local plumber had been given this earlier today by a grateful customer and he had no use for it. Knowing we like rice (& Japan), we were the natural choice :)

So simple, so lovely. It really is.
