I am not hopeless or cynical, but you have to understand, for some people, there is never a good reason to help another person. Regardless of age, class, race, gender, etc. They will find reasons they think they can spin into something palatable, but they really just believe someone has to suffer.

Honestly don't know how I'm going to get all the things I want to get done, done this year but we're at the very least going to attempt to do so. We shall see.
