Makoto Yukimura was worried that Vinland Saga's farming arc and "I have no enemies" moment was a gamble that readers wouldn't like. I told him about the J. Cole meme from the Kendrick Lamar and Drake rap beef. This is how he reacted.

If “I have no enemies” has become a meme and people remember it, then maybe people will understand what I’m really trying to say through the story, which is that humans are immature, but we can mature. To become mature is to become kind. This is the foundation of what I’m trying to say, but it really has to be much shorter for people to remember. But it does give me hope that people remember these short phrases as memes. Then, one day, it will click in their mind what I was trying to really say in the first place.

In all seriousness, publishers are going to have to figure out how to market books in the post-social-media landscape. That should be an implicit part of their job. What authors/artists can do on their own is increasingly limited and siloed.

Megan writes killer dialogue for these teen girls. I love a well-written, but absolutely terrible, human. And the monochromatic, ethereal artwork? Totally gorgeous.

This is an enraging read - influencers are telling women that folic acid is toxic & causes autism, thus putting them off taking it in vitamins if they're trying to get pregnant. Worse, they're peddling expensive supplements that don't have folic acid - and Serena Williams is a shill for one of them

MARISSA: Look, no offense, but this is free-for-all mode. As in ‘every woman for herself.’ You can’t ride a star’s coattails anymore.

SASHA: Are you fucking serious right now?
MARISSA: I’m just realistic. Unless you really think you can beat players like Amanda and Gabby.
TONYA: Would you please--
