Nowadays youths are especially attuned to genocide, I keep hearing, because social media is showing them the whole wide world the olds would turn their back on — okay, so how are they taking Sudan?
Many, especially in younger generations, see through this posturing. They have watched wide-eyed as a genocide that would otherwise be swept under the rug by the manufacturing-consent machine was televised to them in horrific fragments on Instagram Live, and they know, in the simplest terms, that things are not the way they should be.

However, unlike prior inflation reports, this one lacked data, especially many of the mont'-to-month changes in inflation in certain sectors, because the government shutdown prevented collection of lot of information.

Only 16 states have mandatory helmet laws without exceptions (“exceptions” usually means they are requiring it for minors only)

Note, too, that the Geneva Convention does not apply. Drug gangs haven't signed it. So we must go back to common law principles of the law of war, if we think about the law of war at all. But this isn't war. It falls either into ordinary U.S. statutes, or into the principles of Piracy. Ordinary U.S. statutes do say that an American can't kill somebody in a foreign country, I think. If that is so, and it isn't relevant they are drug runners, then the American soldiers involved are guilty of violating that criminal statute. So is the commander who told them to do it. It is, however, relevant that they were criminals. Under customary international law, anybody can kill a pirate, that is, kill someone who is in the business of murder, kidnapping, and robbery on the high seas. 4 Would anyone prosecute a navy captain for kidnapping if he captured the Somali pirates in the picture at the start of this Substack? It is an easy extension to say that anybody can kill a drug runner on the high seas. In that case, killing the survivors is legal. As in warfare, where it is fully legal to kill enemy wounded or shipwrecked if you cannot take them prisoner, here it is legal to kill floating drug traffickers. Indeed, why should it make a difference whether you shoot a drug trafficker on the deck of his ship or floating in the water, if restraint means he'll go back to drug trafficking?
