Day 7 of Stream Ink is Botany Day, so here’s a lovely botanist hard at work analysing some samples. I’m sure Professor O’Brien here will notice that that moss sample over on the right has gained sentience before it escapes the lab, don’t even worry about it x

this isn't even news - i swear i saw articles about this back when i was using an inhaler for a while, like 10 years ago. they'd just rather blame anyone other than the big tech companies actually draining vast resources for no reason, so might as well direct our ire at disabled people i guess 🤷

my experience with fandom has involved making friends with other grown-ups and engaging in a wide range of hobbies together. that man just wants attention, even if it’s just getting mad at him.

oh yeah. there are more personal posts and conversations i'm much happier being in the more restricted space of a discord, personally. conversely, there needs to also be spaces where posts have the potential to break containment and find new friends, like special events or promting new work or w/e

precisely! if somehow we only had discord, i have no idea how anyone coming later to the fandom would ever find anyone else - so there needs to be some kind of open community as well, or eventually the community fizzles out completely.

i’m in a bunch of servers but rarely check any these days because it’s so much to keep track of, and if the conversation is already popping off and i don’t know anyone well, it can be really intimidating to try and join in

discord has the benefit of being a place that facilitates conversation more than the like-and-move-on of a lot of public sites, but it’s VERY siloed - if you only post there, there will always be people who never see what you share because they didn’t happen to be invited to that one server.

i’ve been there for some time but wouldn’t want it as my only sm. i like it, but it’s quiet and i’m bad at networking/finding people. i get decent engagement (for me, which isn‘t much) on my art but not many people TALK to me.

but people are unafraid to share posts, which is good for reach i guess?
