My instant reaction to Badenoch's stamp duty announcement for @instituteforgovernment.org.uk

Stamp duty is a bad tax. But abolishing it without a broader reform of property taxes would be a missed opportunity and hard to afford.

Reeves speech. Best bit? Sorry to be Grinchy, but

"Let me tell you, there is nothing progressive, nothing Labour, about government using £1 in every £10 of public money it spends on financing debt to interest" is pretty good.

...but no indication of which taxes might rise. Understandable that CX cannot pre-empt Budget announcements in conference speech but it does mean the biggest questions facing the CX were left unanswered today. Today's announcements (mainly details on youth guarantee) were small.
