I analyzed the DOGE wall of receipts. At best, the savings only cover 11% ($7B) of the estimated savings of $65B. This is assuming the "savings" values on the site are calculated correctly.

i don’t like the “parrot” framing personally, at the very least i’d like people using it to engage with the reality of emergent behavior (linked)

We investigate the internal mechanisms used by Claude 3.5 Haiku — Anthropic's lightweight production model — in a variety of contexts, using our circuit tracing methodology.

LLMs + tool calling feels like such a big advancement. (Emphasis on FEELS).

What happens when they push an update to the model? What happens when their service goes down?

Those two questions seem to hold it back entirely. Such a massive risk with regressions, downtime, and unpredictability.

I think AI has only been super helpful with architecting sample data when starting a project... other than that its like babysitting an engineer who likes to go beyond the bounds of a reasonable scope + write convincing, buggy code.

PREACH
Anyone who tells you otherwise hasn’t built software from scratch that is best-in-class

And likely things software is all solved by now

But it’s NOT

Those who invent the next chapter I cannot see doing it relying mostly on AI. Quite the opposite

Been architecting my next POC. Is this what we are calling agents? Workers/Service + OpenAI Tool Calling?

I just started using Cursor pro after not using it for months (now it costs to use regardless). I find it super _ironic_ that the advice in software engineering is to think before you code, but this puppy just edits and writes code across multiple files _immediately_ without guidance. 1/4

Just discovered @tornadoarchive.com

I was able to look up info on the Feb 10, 2009 tornado that my family and I had to shelter from. Check out the explorer here: tornadoarchive.com/explorer

Awesome work! Super awesome tech. In particular, this tornado sounded like a freight train as it went by.

The problem is that if you can convince Elon Musk you are smart, you can get unfettered access to all of his companies and now the most sensitive systems in the United States government.

You can now read about projects that were interrupted when 18F was disbanded.

One of them was with the Federal Voting Assistance Program (FVAP), which ensures military service members and Americans overseas are able to vote, and that their votes are counted.

For over 11 years, 18F has been proudly serving the American people to make government technology work better. We are non-partisan civil servants. 18F has worked on hundreds of projects, all designed ...

In the meeting with Zelensky and Trump, the US only acknowledged one threat - Europe. A question was asked about it, and it felt manufactured to give the illusion of friction between the US and Europe.

It seems to me that saving $600 per tax payer (finite, single savings) is not worth completely gutting our scientific research, education system, and economic stability long term. NOTE: their receipts only add up to $200/tax payer btw.

DOGE has added a new table for grants that they are cutting. They also have updated their "estimated" savings to $105B. I updated my scripts and scraped the actual data on the page to compare (you can find the summary data/scripts here: github.com/sammydowds/d...).
