I burst into the men's room—panicked, sweaty—as a powerful wave of nausea washed over me. Then, with a mighty gronthrop, I projectile vomited all over the urinal six feet away, attempting to refine my marksmanship as it all got underway

And yet I can't believe it's only been a year since Covid

Well, he was transparently quite into you

Epic rundown

Man, my wife is tired of me saying how it's some kind of rich actor bullshit to rock up with nose jobs, lip filler and botox & be cast as like a hotel service person and expect us to be like that's Oscar worthy

Like if Eddie Van Halen numbed the shit out of his fingers and went out into the arena

OMG This looks epic!

With great respect and hope I humbly submit that unless a person like myself can get a blue check we are just creating another institutional system of inequality. I refuse to invest myself in another platform that chooses to go down this road. Nonetheless, I am rooting for you guys!

Christ I remember when Picard was "old"... now he looks youthful to me...

So I downloaded and updated my MacOS editor to v4.3, saw the new noise gate controls, and all is good! 😅

I love a product that gets better overtime, but jeez

Seems the MacOS editor will update the pedal firmware automatically, in the background, to the latest version even if the editor is the previous generation. The pedal got updated w/ features that I did not have any on-screen controls for, and there was no notification on screen that this happened!

Next thing you know, his unit power cycled, and then showed v3.0.0, and suddenly started to exhibit the same behavior as mine! That’s when we knew it had to be a firmware issue, not my hardware.

Then we remembered that a new editor dropped last Friday, and one of the new features is a noise gate...

...but I don't know when they'll ship it, or if it'll be here before I leave for my gigs in Mexico this week.

Fortunately my bass player has one that he's willing to let me use just in case 😅

Wrap up: I feel comfortable to move forward and tackle anything I need now, but it took 15-20hrs of a learning curve. But it's exciting to know that I'll be able to so some mind-bending stuff on the fly live, as well as customize the rig for any genre! (fin)

Want a Phase 90? Start with a sine wave oscillator, set manual offsets, figure out how many stages you want etc. So I had to go online and look at a circuit diagram to get an idea. This is where Line 6 nails it — here's *that* pedal, and all the knobs do what they do IRL. (9/9)

And they straight up do not have any built-in recreations of pedals you know, nor any basic presets for the most common effects, so one has to build from scratch with their legos, and guess at where you'll end up. (8/9)

Finally, the last irritation is that Eventide refuses to speak guitar — parameters are often just given values without any explanation of what they're actually doing to the audio. I mean, you can tell by listening to some extent, but I'd love to get an actual "this cuts at 250 with a Q of 1". (7/9)

It's really inexplicable that they did not include a straight analog drive through. Even with the routing options they have each algorithm has its own dry signal so a lot of times the levels will jump up and explicitly or you'll get weird come filtering if things are routed in parallel etc. . (6/9)
March 28, 2025 at 2:16 AM
Definitely noticeable, which means I was not able to take advantage of the insert routing since that all takes place inside it and the hit to the feel is not worth it. In that configuration you can't use true bypass so you're stuck with the tone suck. (5/9)
March 28, 2025 at 2:16 AM
The bad news: it still has a noticeable effect on the analog signal – it reduces the dynamic range of your playing ever so slightly, and thinly veils the high end. (4/9)
March 28, 2025 at 2:15 AM
The editors for the computer/iPad work very well over USB, and it's easy to make presets and organize, which is a definite step up from the H9's old semi-abandoned iOS Bluetooth app. (3/9)
