This is an important point.

Everyone one of these people has been asked to leave their home, their family, and their job to work without pay bc of the shutdown. We're better off thinking of ways to make this backfire on Abbott than to treat them poorly.

For one, the federal government cannot constitutionally commandeer state officials to do its bidding.

But more importantly, the president does not see his political opposition as legitimate but rather as a target for a carceral and militaristic state. It is deeply undemocratic and authoritarian.

I’m not a political strategist or a social psychologist, but to me this seems true and important. Values must be activated. Surviving a real crisis takes real leadership.

I can fly from MIC to Dallas, and then I think there's a cheap Frontier flight, so it's not quite as bad as Denver or Midway - but St. Louis might be quicker

Just a small rant- how in the hell is there no direct flight from Kansas City to Oklahoma City? There is zero reason I should have to fly to effing Chicago or Denver just to get from DCA to a KC bar mitzvah to my parents' house.
