Please, everyone, drop what you’re doing and read this:
I go to @timothysnyder.bsky.social and @hcrichardson.bsky.social for historical perspective and contemporary context about the dystopia we're experiencing. Snyder's post today has both, plus real actionable guidance. open.substack.com/pub/snyder/p...

Sometimes a petit four from a local bakery is enough to fight back the dread for a minute or two.

January Reads wrapup courtesy @thestorygraph.com .
I used Libby and Hoopla through my public library to read many of these. Libraries are the best of us! What did your read this month? See any favorites?#FReadom #SupportPublicLibraries

My state motto is "While I breathe, I hope" and my grandmother's was "Don't let the bastards get you down." Finally, in the immortal words of Sonny and Cher, "I've got you, babe." Trying to find some comfort in the dark.

What are you currently reading? I think I will finish two of these before January ends (Has it been a year this month, or what?) I'm already looking forward to February new releases and a hint of Spring in the air.

Support your local library. Here's my small haul from the Friends of Richland County Public Library sale. I like to find hardcovers of books I loved and try out new to me ones too!

This was a little eerily correct. Image from the vault of chronicles Instagram account. I still miss Instagram so much, even though it has been taken over by the censors. Maybe when I find more of my people here it will be better?

Escaping the horrors of the world with @canterburyclassics.bsky.social Jane Austen challenge in honor of her 250th birthday. If I think about it, 1775 was a pretty chaotic year to get through too.
Anyway, P&P still holds up.

One thing before tomorrow:

Use your local libraries.

Get your card.

Borrow books, manga, films, audios, ebooks.

Recommend titles for purchase (usually online).

Attend promoted activities.

Fill out those "How are we doing?" questionnaires.

Tell your kids that libraries are good.

They are.

New morning routine.
Coffee or Tea
Bluesky for my social media fix.
Substack for my news fix.
Read a little.
Put the phone down.

It's hard not to go to the other apps right now and to avoid mainstream media, but as Paulo Friere said - We make the road by walking.
Baby steps...
What about you?

The Bookish dilemma..
Do I read the books I physically own first or the library holds on my Libby app?
I'm trying to stop my book buying madness, but I have a soft spot for anything related to archaeology or Egyptology related. Putting Libby aside and diving in. #booksky
