Putin’s communists???

Totally agree. (I had to look up 'Chesterson's Fence' and I'm glad I did.)

I don't want to get all Chesterton's Fence here, but if you don't understand that a "microscopic snail" is an indicator species that's protected for the health of the entire ecosystem, you probably shouldn't be forming "good relationships" with developers

Perhaps plans for the exploitation of the enormous offshore oil reserves?

The Sea Lion oil field holds at least 800m barrels of oil, 2-3 times bigger than Rosebank.

UK govt has an interest as does the Israeli company Navitas.

Third generation? Do you mean it has a parent born at Blean?
sarahfinch.bsky.social
Good to hear such strong words from Ed Miliband on fracking.

I hope he will be as forthright when it comes to the issue of oil production in the North Sea. All the same arguments apply, and more so given the relative scale of the offshore fields vs the onshore ones.

@profbillmcguire.bsky.social tells it like it is:

“Pragmatism is only possible when feasible alternatives are available. Where climate breakdown is concerned, there is no alternative... We either slash emissions now or we are in deep, deep trouble.”

❗ Give Cranswick Chair Tim Smith the boot: Remove him from Government advisory boards.

Give Tim Smith the Boot!
Given Cranswick's systemic violations towards pigs, Tim Smith must be removed from Government advisory boards.

I'm glad they didn't persuade the majority 🙁
sarahfinch.bsky.social
Gosh. Did they make a useful contribution to the debate before walking out?
sarahfinch.bsky.social
There is a list of councillors who supported the motion. No Reform names on it. But perhaps the ten who didn't abstain voted against? Bizarre anyway. Hard to see someone who could oppose 'zero tolerance to hate crime'.
sarahfinch.bsky.social
Does that also mean 10 of the 16 Reform councillors weren't at the meeting?

🚨 Legal win 🚨

UK Govt forced to review its Industrial Strategy

Our legal challenge exposed failure to assess environmental impacts of Carbon Capture & Storage - a dirty distraction, locking us into gas

Bad idea! Judicial review is a vital safeguard against the govt ignoring environmental rules and agreements.

Without the Aarhus Convention, @wealdactiongroup.bsky.social and I would not have had our landmark legal win which has changed the whole approach to assessing new oil & gas developments.
sarahfinch.bsky.social
There is already a high bar to bringing a judicial review case. Already cases deemed without merit can’t proceed. The vast majority don’t make it past the permission stage.

If the govt wants to avoid legal challenges, they need to make sure their plans are good in the first place.

Bad idea!

The ability to request judicial review is a vital safeguard against the govt making bad decisions and ignoring environmental rules & agreements.

Without the Aarhus Convention, @wealdactiongroup.bsky.social and I would not have been able to bring our case on oil production at Horse Hill

📢FOI in the News!

The government is considering leaving the Aarhus Convention, which allows groups to judicially review environmentally damaging proposals without massive costs if they lose.

Salmon Run 2025 was an amazing day full of sunshine and showers and rainbows.🐟🌈

Thank you all who took part. From the start of the ultra at 8am to the arrival of the relay at 6.30pm, it was a joy.

All eyes are on Dorset Council. This is the first time 'significance' of climate impact of an oil development has to be judged following my Supreme Court ruling last year.
sarahfinch.bsky.social
ARGH!! A bad and irresponsible decision.

It also goes against the Planning Inspectorate’s advice that the second runway plans should be refused for a number of reasons, including the greenhouse gas emissions.

Glad to know that legal challenges are on the way.

It's tomorrow! The Salmon are running and so are we.

It’s looking wet, but not windy. There may be some additional Health and Safety notices– please make sure your trainers have decent tread.

Due to 🌧️ Salmon Run: The Gathering will now be indoors at Heydays glass box & Sideshore community hub.
