'Big Beautiful' $45B for detention centers could instead finance an estimated 163,600 new affordable apartments through the Low Income Housing Tax Credit.

It could prevent imminent eviction for between 9.8M and 16.6M households.

It could prevent around 59M utility shutoffs.

Thank you @aoc.bsky.social for showing true leadership! We cannot be a country that disappears people to torture.
The Trump Admin is trying to disappear almost 200 more people to El Salvador.

This is a violation of due process.

If we let Trump get away with disappearing immigrants under the Alien Enemies Act, there is nothing stopping him from disappearing U.S. citizens next. (1/2)

Van Hollen says that he asked the VP of El Salvador why his government continues to hold Abrego Garcia even though he’s not charged with any crime and there’s no evidence that he’s MS-13.

“His answer was that the Trump administration is paying the government of El Salvador to keep him at CECOT”

Q: 60 Minutes found 75% of the migrants who were sent to El Salvador do not have criminal records. That true?

BONDI: They're not Venezuelan migrants. They're illegal aliens from Venezuela who should not have been in our country

Q: So you're confirming they didn't commit a crime?

BONDI: *leaves*

I led 48 @housedemocrats.bsky.social to demand Secretary Noem immediately restore DHS oversight offices and end inhumane treatment of detainees.

At the Krome Detention center, people are subjected to conditions that led to multiple deaths. It must end.

The Laken Riley Act will have unintended, far-reaching consequences–including requiring the detention of immigrant children accused of stealing a stick of gum.

It takes resources away from the detention of violent criminals and makes us all less safe.
