Still going to lots of operas. Always manage to find some when visiting grandchildren in Australia and Norway. Still angry about Brexit.
That’s what I thought immediately. Such a memorable production!

When people say to me it’ll be fine to travel to the US for the World Cup, I’m going to point them to this story.

Yes indeed. I do agree that libretti in English are sometimes best glossed over. If you haven’t seen the 2010 Glyndebourne Billy Budd which is to be revived this year, I really recommend it.

Why did you find EG’s introduction surplus to requirements I wonder. We are fans of his from years ago but more recently in Bergen and now at Oslo opera where he is Music Director. Our son is now a Norwegian citizen and lives near Oslo with his family.

If you have two seats in a box in Vienna, you can select the original language for one seat and the English translation for the other.

I sympathise with your second gripe! We have just seen Benvenuto Cellini at La Monnaie. Above the stage we had the French libretto in the middle with the English and Dutch translation on each side. Perfect!

We did once hear him as Cavaradossi at Torre del Lago Puccini.

Maybe Bellini and Donizetti will feature in the closing ceremony from the Arena di Verona?

My feelings exactly ! It’s what I quote with monotonous regularity! His pronouncements are frankly embarrassing.

Too expensive, surely?

Australia is at least as good, if not better. Every little park, green space, shopping area has a free restroom and water fountain.

Your post resonated with me too; I recall two girls at our school who had to live with severe after effects of polio.

Who was the replacement! We fly to LHR from SYD on Wednesday and are hoping to catch the encore somewhere in London. Mad or what!

I hope you enjoy I Puritani - it’s a wonderful opera. I am in Sydney enjoying seeing my grandchildren, so I fear that we shall miss the relay as we don’t land until early on the 15th. Lisette Oropesa is stunning.
