The other insight is that the compositions and color should bring joy and a feeling of ease - you know things are overworked when you see them or feel them. This medium is so instructive for having a lighter touch, you have to allow the color to move as it’s going to without relying on control.

Please excuse the digression as I chat about creativity. I’ve been really enjoying working with watercolors recently and find the compositions to be quick and flow right out of me. Having worked with the rigidity of printmaking, this feels wholly different and…easy… in a way I hadn’t expected.

Do not turn away joy when it is at your doorstep. Be reasonable.

Fun and also some failure in the studio this morning.

“We are water” 17x17 in.
Water soluble oil ink with an intaglio press.

Here is one final. This print is not finished - you can see the ink is mucked up on this from poor coverage. It’s a real process - I like process photos bc it reminds you of how much failure goes into all of this. It hasn’t even met a press yet, just my kitchen table on the day after the election.

And here are two more.

“The Cosmic Body”

Ok. It’s Friday night and the week is OVER. I’m going to show you all a few recent prints. These prints (18x18 paper) are made through multiple inkings on an intaglio press.

First one is “Never again”

FYI y’all. There is snow on the North Cascades. So, some things still make sense.
