Just a nerd with opinions.
If everyone leaves a Frey pie out, on a table by the fireplace, when everyone is in bed, GRRM will arrive on his sled, pulled by ice spiders as large as hounds, and leave a copy of TWOW in your family crypt.

I normally love the Onion, but this one was tasteless last year and hasn't improved with age. I had half a dozen friends lose homes in those fires. My kids' old school burned down. I get that Californians aren't real Americans and all, but fuck off.

It hit me watching the last episode how much Manousos vibes as a hard nosed, independent, stoic, masculine, classic golden era sci-fi protagonist, while Carol is chilling by the pool, reading the Left Hand of Darkness. I haven't been working obscure theories...

Just to be clear, the Trump class battleships won't have magnets, yeah?

There are literally fire wyrms in the backstory. This should not be a hold up!
This is why A Song of Ice and Fire is taking so long. Martin is trying to write an ending that doesnt involve a sandworm and it's taking forever. Winds of Winter would have been out in 2015 if he'd just gone with the sandworm.

This is an oddly good, sleeper Christmas movie. My kids have loved it for year, and even my now cynical ass teenage child is still like, "Klaus is peak!"

I'm not sure if I think there is an ASOIAF take that is worse than GRRM is too grim-dark and it has ruined modern fantasy for a generation. GRRM isn't even grim-dark; his stories are deeply moral. Maybe learn to read and quit just repeating shit you see on-line.

Just realized that the reason Avatar bs keeps popping up in my feed is that fans are abbreviating The Way of Water as TWOW. TWOW stands for The Winds of Winter, chuckle fucks. Get out of my feed!

The problem with the end of season 8 wasn't that Jon kills Daenerys, it's that it is framed as a moral decision to kill dragon Stalin rather that the abandonment of duty for love in his desire to protect Sansa and Arya, as Danny plans to to use the dragons to retake the North.

Tired: Die Hard is a Christmas movie.
Inspired: Jazz is Christmas music.

I think that was my favorite episode of Pluribus.

Clearly, Cersei, but also Danny and Arya.
There are many mysteries in A Song of Ice and Fire, none more intriguing than which character Miss Piggy would play

Nerd Level 1: Hey! Holly is reading A Wrinkle in Time.
Nerd Level 2: Mike calling Will a Sorcerer is BS because the class wasn't introduced until 5E. (We don't talk about 4e.)
Nerd Level 3: Mike's talk with Holly is BS too, dimension door was never on the cleric spell list. (She'll tesser later.)

As we approach the Long Night on the 21st, I just want to remind everyone that axial tilt is always the true reason for the season.

How about no? Fuck that. Fuck No. Just no.
The Democrats don’t have an answer to Trump. Do the neoconservatives? David Brooks on why the moral tenor of their political writings could be a tonic for a society in crisis:
Bring Back the Neocons
They could be an antidote to Trumpism.

Having re watched Jackson's Lord of the Rings this last year, I just have to comment about how great the casting was, and not just the obvious casting. Ian McKellon, John Noble and Christopher Lee are all so good you could have randomly cast them as any of their roles...

When I was 30, a date with my wife was browsing at the bookstore, walking over to the art house movie theater, picking a move, and discussing it over dinner. Then we had kids, and smart phones became a thing. My attention span declined, and I became bad at living my life authentically.

You just have to love that GRRM has Uthor Hightower just hanging out like the French knight in the Holy Grail, when Garth and the "First Men" role up. It perfectly reflects the inconsistency of real world myths, while giving us heads up not to trust the story.

Fellowship of the Ring, opening night, Portland, OR, peak 20 something Portlandia crowd.

HP Lovecraft Film Festival, at the Hollywood Theater, also in Portland, OR peak 20 something Portlandia crowd.

Seven, at a derelict, nearly abandoned drive-in movie theater in Pomona, CA.
Raising the always fun question: What are your most memorable theater-going experiences?

Mine also include The Matrix, Blair Witch, and being way too stoned in Belgium when Fellowship of the Ring was sold out so we sat in the back row for Mulholland Drive instead.
It was hands-down one of the most memorable theater-going experiences I can remember, a collective 30-minute butt-clench/armrest-grab for the final climb. And we knew he lived! Wild.

14 has already been out two days this week and will miss tomorrow. The cruel part is that she missed her English class finishing the Odyssey and will miss them starting A Wrinkle in Time. It's like the universe is mocking her.

Here's the thing. If I was to give you my typical experience with African immigrants in WA and CA -- and honestly, this shouldn't be the argument, with the whole model minority thing -- but my typical experience: fucking kind, charming, intelligent people with nice kids and cool accents.
