We alway used Gobnait for Deborah. Not that it was any closer

Knew a couple Flors in Cork. That and Connie (Cornelius) were definitely popular mid century - probably last used in the 70s.

There’s a want in them

Same here - had a run in with a few last year who travelled to hunt here on a recommendation from a local and were on husband’s family land with no permission- they assumed the guy renting owned it- we’ve signs up now preserving the land. I told them it was a relief that they were a dying breed.

Mine arrived yesterday - should have left the husband or sister open it.
Just to say I knew the drawings were gorgeous but the paper quality is also beautiful and loved the little extras.

Will be seeing that around my area for the next few months no doubt. Car loads of old fellas driving in and out boreens with their binoculars. I think I have even more disdain for them.

Ssh. Those of us who were around like to pretend that wasn’t the case (but yes we were obsessed with them) I worked in a newsagents in my teens & soft touch UK women’s magazines like Women’s weekly and Woman’s own were hugely popular here and very v flattering of the royals (& Thatcher)

Guessing that poll is 88 or 89 - I remember a bit of furore when Joe Kennedy was in Belfast.

She died in 82 - looking at that list the poll was late 80s

Perfect summary

No surprise there

Its a journey

Its definitely got a lot of radio coverage. Unfortunately too late for my kids. I haven’t seen the details but if its based on parents replying regarding their individual school, nothing will change.

Very shrill on the news earlier and the Cork accent gets stronger the more pressure he’s under
December 16, 2025 at 10:53 AM
So sorry you went through that. It wasnt all left behind in the 90s even when they tried to reinvent themselves

My grandfather had to crawl up the aisle of the church as penance for going to a Co of I neighbour’s funeral in the 1920s. My Mum had plenty of tales from the 50s/60s. Most priests I came across were benign but there was still shaming and veiled comments.

Daniel Mulhall was on with Brendan O Connor yesterday & basically said he stays on Twitter to be a voice of reason. If him & those with profiles left it would turn into Parler. He feels we have to listen to others opinions. I’m gone from it a long time but I don’t think thats how it works on there.

No you can’t but I don’t want him to get the habit of the camera until he has the test done. Its the same here as the UK for the automatic licence.

Im a bit older than you so I have a memory of a cranky old fella with boot-polish black hair who we called Fr Brimstone - he ranted every couple of weeks. The guy after him was Fr Slow motion or Cabbage head. The clergy were fairly prominent then, so like teachers, (some) creative nicknames abounded

Scarlet for them. This is why my son is learning to drive a manual, unlike some of his peers and I also get him to reverse using his mirrors and looking over his shoulder- not by reversing camera alone (that said the warning beeps are great)

Glad now it was sold out in my local shop yesterday 😅 Looks like something from the 80s. Sign of a shift in the demographic the IT are aiming for?
December 14, 2025 at 10:43 AM
That is just wrong
December 13, 2025 at 11:29 PM
Definitely not Dublin, Ireland
December 11, 2025 at 7:51 PM
So a new discount tat shop right next to an existing one. The 80s were bleak in Cork but when Pennys moved out, the Queen’s Old Castle had some great independent shops alongside Golden discs/Hickeys/Mirror Mirror etc
