As the Atmosphere is the thing that clouds float within, the metaphor feels apt. [2] Connected clouds solve a lot of problems. You still have the always-on convenience, but you can also store your own data and run your own programs. It's personal computing, for the cloud.

This slogan, evocative of E.F. Schumacher's “small is beautiful,” was developed by Carla Howell & Michael Cloud in Massachusetts.

It's positive, and it evokes good vibes and previous coinages about the “government which governs best, governs least.”

Is it correct?

2026 is going to be a busy election year and @bsky.app needs to get better at screening fake accts.

Just reported this impersonation of @wileynickel.com by an account with a similar name that bulk follows followers of the authentic account that aren't already followed back.

This pattern of duplicating most of the user name and reposting from the original account should be filtered early.

We maintained a strongly anti-racist front against the infiltrators for a long time, thanks to leaders in the Libertarian Party who recognized the white nationalist rhetoric for what it was.

I agree that statism is evil, and that it intentionally damages the family to weaken its most obvious opponent. I even agree with the value of each of us working, individually, to strengthen our extended family. But the idea that our race is some kind of extended family to whom we owe some violent loyalty is absurd. The idea that we should go from open free market capitalism, which includes the market of ideas and religions, to racial loyalty is nonsense. In pointing this out, Nicholas Sarwark has served one of his most important strategic jobs as chair and leader of this party. He has found a threat to liberty, which intends to redirect developing libertarians into white nationalism. He has spoken about it, despite the historical popularity of the Mises Institute. And he has spoken clearly and powerfully against it. And now I’ll do mine. Over the last years, I have warned many of you about strategic threats to the cause of individual liberty. This is one of those threats, perhaps the biggest we have seen so far. I add my voice to Chairman Sarwark’s in denouncing this racial nationalism masquerading as libertarianism, and encourage you to do the same. Racial nationalism is the worst form of collectivism. Should it be allowed to exist? Sure. Should we, as supporters of individual greatness and opportunity, of individual rights and principle, even consider supporting racial tribalism? Absolutely not.

Libertarians like Adam Bates and the late Steve Horwitz called out this gutter racism for what it was at the time, which really annoyed the MAGA folks who had been pushing a white nationalist version of “liberty” that prioritized the freedom to segregate and discriminate over all others.
The split between left-leaning and right-leaning libertarians has reached a fever pitch after Jeff Deist, Director of the Mises Institute, gave an iconic speech during his annual Mises University event about “blood and soil” libertarianism, an idea encompassing cultural conservatism as a barricade against state power. “It is reasonable to believe that a more libertarian society would be less libertine and more culturally conservative — for the simple reason that as the state shrinks in importance and power, the long-suppressed institutions of civil society grow in importance and power,” Deist said. “And in a more libertarian society, it’s harder to impose the costs of one’s lifestyle choices on others. If you rely on the family or church or charity to help you, they may well impose some conditions on that help.” While these sentiments may seem benign in nature, they were immediately picked up upon by frenzied analysts at the Cato Institute as inherently racist–filled with dog-whistles that appeal to the alt-right bogeymen that they have imagined is lurking around every corner. “If you keep saying things like “heil Trump” and “blood and soil” and putting slightly-modified Nazi flags in the backdrop of your [social media picture], you really, REALLY need to stop complaining about the way people react,” Cato analyst Adam Bates wrote on social media in an attempt to equate Deist and his supporters to racists. “Quit pretending you’re being misunderstood. You’re not that smart, and the rest of us aren’t that dumb.”

The use of “blood and soil” in a speech from a 2017 speech given by the president of the Mises Institute, Jeff Deist, was a sign that white nationalism was infiltrating the “liberty movement” along with the GOP.

Universal individual rights are core to libertarianism, the opposite of blood and soil.
Yet libertarians are busy promoting universalism and centralization even as the world moves in the other direction. Trump and Brexit rocked the globalist narrative. Nationalism is on the rise throughout Europe, forcing the EU to defend itself, secession and breakaway movements exist in Scotland, in Catalonia, in Belgium, in Andalusia, even in California. Federalism and states’ rights are suddenly popular with progressives in the US. The world desperately wants to turn its back on Washington and Brussels and the UN and the IMF and all of the globalist institutions. Average people smell a rat. We should seize on this. Mecca is not Paris, an Irishman is not an Aboriginal, a Buddhist is not a Rastafarian, a soccer mom is not a Russian. Is it our goal to convince them all to become thorough Rothbardians? Should libertarians care about gay marriage in Saudi Arabia, or insist on the same border arrangements for Brownsville, Texas and Monaco? Should we agitate for Texas-style open carry laws in France, to prevent the next Bataclan? Or would our time be better spent making the case for political decentralization, secession, and subsidiarity? In other words, should we let Malta be Maltese?
