Parallels between 1860 and 2025 are worthy of reflection.

Corruption enabling ethnic cleansing is not policy to be debated, it is an attack on the republic to be repelled, as the brave citizens of Portland and Chicago showed us.

How many kicks does it take before you are wide awake?

“The ability for Americans to actively participate in the presidential election of 1860 and sway first-time voters gave young people a sense of importance, and a sense that they were able to positively change politics for the better in their daily lives.”

A good read for New Year's Eve.

We can build something new for 2026.

“small government is beautiful”

This slogan, evocative of E.F. Schumacher's “small is beautiful,” was developed by Carla Howell & Michael Cloud in Massachusetts.

It's positive, and it evokes good vibes and previous coinages about the “government which governs best, governs least.”

Is it correct?

The first impersonating account got suspended, but a new one ( @wileynickelchatpag.bsky.social ) is impersonating @wileynickel.com by posting a bunch of reposts of the authentic candidate account.

2026 is going to be a busy election year and @bsky.app needs to get better at screening fake accts.

Just reported this impersonation of @wileynickel.com by an account with a similar name that bulk follows followers of the authentic account that aren't already followed back.

This pattern of duplicating most of the user name and reposting from the original account should be filtered early.

We maintained a strongly anti-racist front against the infiltrators for a long time, thanks to leaders in the Libertarian Party who recognized the white nationalist rhetoric for what it was.

Libertarians like Adam Bates and the late Steve Horwitz called out this gutter racism for what it was at the time, which really annoyed the MAGA folks who had been pushing a white nationalist version of “liberty” that prioritized the freedom to segregate and discriminate over all others.

The use of “blood and soil” in a speech from a 2017 speech given by the president of the Mises Institute, Jeff Deist, was a sign that white nationalism was infiltrating the “liberty movement” along with the GOP.

Universal individual rights are core to libertarianism, the opposite of blood and soil.

The NRA is cutting two of its magazines, “America’s 1st Freedom” and “Shooting Illustrated.”

Further signs of decline.

For those who keep track of failed academic and neoconfederate podcaster Tom Woods, a redacted report to law enforcement was recently released with allegations of child sexual abuse.

When Jews are murdered on a beach during a celebration of liberation, it makes one pause to consider whether or not to put the candles in the window tonight, whether or not it's safe for people to know you are Jewish.

But after that pause, Hanukkah is about putting the candles in the window anyway.

Dear Representative Boebert,

Are you going to join the articles of impeachment against Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth?

He clearly feels no shame and will not willingly resign.

I look forward to your reply.

It's time to impeach Trump's cabinet secretaries, in reverse order of public approval rating.

Congress can and should remove Pam Bondi, Kristi Noem, Pete Hegseth, and RFK Jr.

Best to make it count with something more creative than this guy before being blocked.

Post better, MAGA folks.

The new Southwest Airlines livery on the 737-MAX8 is quite nice.

More perceived leg room, due to the slimmer upholstery.

Respecting the equal rights of all people is necessary for human flourishing.

Those who would make some group of people have fewer rights than some other group of people are working against human flourishing.
