There is something to be written about the politics of the movie wonderboys: PTA, QT, Wes Anderson, Noah Baumbach. There is a kind of aesthetic isolationism at work. It is at least implicitly conservative.

Yes, agreed.

PTA's overwhelming interest is obsessive male power (i.e. big dicks, metaphorically and literally), the way it is exerted upon others. He knows nothing about people other than white men, except as subjects of the power. He is critical of that power, but cannot begin to imagine any alternative to it.

Hollywood producers/studios know before the opening day is over whether the movie is a flop, at which point they might cut off the director, stop responding to their calls, spread rumors about the difficult auteur etc. The game becomes blaming the artist, shedding all responsibility.

Except they might do it, or are in fact already doing it (see Ukraine) by invading and reconfiguring global order. They will take advantage of American self-destruction. The US is a shithole coountry with a lot of weapons. The military, incapable of winning international wars, might turn inwards.
