Excited to see Carmel’s new book available to pre-order. In the basket, and looking forward to the release in April. Carmel’s experience in the classroom is unreal, and I can’t wait to read this treasure trove of wisdom. Proud of you @carmelbones.bsky.social 👏🏼

Huge congratulations to Sarah and Andrea on their Teaching History article. Great example of how we can champion lesser known voices in history, on this occasion, and so pleased to see the ESIS report being put into action. 👏🏼 @sehartsmith.bsky.social @endsexisminschools.bsky.social

Hammered on most listened by my 8 year olds love of K-Pop demon hunters and Hamilton, but where it’s my music, it appears I’m the same age as my parents. A strong year 🤦🏻‍♀️

So disappointed to receive an email from Girlguiding stating that as of today they are no longer trans inclusive. Such a blow to what had been such an inclusive organisation, and such a sad indictment of the times we are living through.

Is it even a holiday if you’re not trying to leave for the airport and the dog tries to ensure she’s packed too? Bonus points for pretending to be asleep so unable to move.

Feeling extremely pleased to have completed my MA! Juggling teaching, new Assistant Head role, solo parenting, writing the ESIS report, and an MA… it’s been busy! Then facing one of the toughest times of my life recently, I didn’t know if I’d get there, so smashing a distinction was a real surprise!

The evidence is clear, and stark: women are consistently and significantly absent from the history taught in schools.

We did find examples of teachers and departments working hard to rectify this, but the issue goes beyond the work of individual passionate teachers. The issue is systemic.

Summer 2025… what a ride! Checklist all done, with an additional badge for Careers (Scientist) and endless trips to the lido thrown in for good measure too.

Now for a new school year, starting with running INSET! Eek!

Pottering around the Remainders Room in Waterstones as E finds a corner to start her new book, followed by coffee and cake… just about the loveliest way to wile away a Sunday afternoon

The most wonderful day getting lost in the woods. Treasures found, trees climbed, dens made. Dreamy.

The holidays have arrived and the annual summer chalkboard is ready to go. Big focus on Brownie badges this year!

Huge thanks to @scl1979.bsky.social for organising a wonderful day at @kewgardens.bsky.social Herbarium and Library. Amazing papers from historians, and great to see how material culture is being used in more schools, particularly from our HA series. Exploring their archive of objects was so special

A very emotional goodbye and overwhelmed by the wonderful messages from students and staff. It’s been quite the year, and lucky to have these amazing colleagues and
friends by my side as I took it on.

Now to the next adventure: Assistant Head T&L. 🎉

Channeling my inner Duchess of Devonshire with a glorious few days in Buxton taking the waters by way of the thermal spa, but taking home some spring water home as well to cover all bases!
