I get that the view of high schoolers in a small town protesting was cynical, but in the context of the movie, it was highlighting disinformation and how confusing things can get online. most of the kids were just doing what they felt was right, even though it was new information to them.

The Joe Cross character exists to make fun of conservatives, and everything that happens to him is 100% his fault because he is bumbling through life like a completely hapless fucking idiot who acts fully selfishly but pretends it's for the greater good. This is clearly a movie punching right and up
