for sure! his last scene wasn't even really *about* him. it made him feel very plot device-y as a whole.

it really wasn't!! the film obviously wasn't that interested in samuel and i think that's fine, but they shuttled him out so quickly that it felt hollow. needed another couple rewrites.

loved this motif in the film and loved reading this!! you captured everything i loved about the movie and also what i didn't. i screamed at you bringing up sanctuary. say what you will about that movie but it knew how to end itself, made me feel like dancing around the room -
