Let that percolate, people. 😹😹😹

As the year begins to quiet, we’re pausing, like a great egret choosing a steady perch over the constantly moving kelp forest canopy. Nature has a gentle way of reminding us to slow down, reflect, and find balance. Here’s to calm moments, the quiet between chapters, and new beginnings. 💙🌊

It is such a pleasure when you can make other people happy. However tiny the means or the gesture, it’s just the best seeing someone smile in pure delight.

Sorry about being a soppy git 🥹

Lucien Favre has announced his retirement and I find myself catapulted back in time to 2011, to the miracle he made possible. 🖤🤍💚
The journey that followed on the heels of that triumph was extraordinary and makes me tear up with joy to this day. 1/2

Which words have given you happiness this year? I’d love to hear them.

(And if you fancy some distraction over the holidays, do give my word game Two Words a try.

While rummaging for Christmas cards this afternoon, I found out that I have already bought 2 birthday ones and another 'just ‘cos' card specifically for one and the same person. Whose birthday is not for another month mind.
Safe to say the person’s lovely but also: I have a memory like a sieve 🤪

Took the wrong turn twice today.
May or may not be affected by this cold I am enjoying during my holidays. Not during my galley slave working days, mind you. During my TIME OFF.
Okay, so two wrong turns, ugh. Cheers to the kind drivers in the roundabouts for letting me in/out.
Felt a right dolt.

I fear they won‘t even regret it and just carry on shuffling their feet and suckling on the teats of deranged dictators.
I can’t help thinking that when, in future, people ask what UK political leaders said as it became undeniable that US saw European liberal democracy as its no1 strategic foe, Starmer and others will regret that the answer is “not much, shuffled awkwardly, looked at their feet”.

Thank you to the lovely audience member at @hayfestival who shared that her daughter had once corrected her pronunciation of ‘epiphany’ and told her it should of course be ‘epi-fanny’.

Which word have you royally mispronounced because you’d only ever seen it written down?

This thread is pure gold!
I am a classic torturer of all Siobhans out there. When I was younger, "zee-o-ban" seemed perfectly acceptable a way to extinguish the will to live in every lady called Siobhan.
Funnily enough, it was The Archers who eventually lifted my heavy veil of ignorance. 🫣😁

Don’t get starstruck much anymore, you lose a lot of that craziness with age, I feel.

But today, a person I have always and will always admire and be a fan of just walked into my place of work, and after much debating with myself, I decided to shake their hand and tell them how much it meant 1/2

When the fear of losing what you cannot possibly bear to be without becomes a visible contortion of anguish on somebody’s face, I struggle to hold on to professional distance.

Hope is a given as a supporter, you cling on like mad.
But once it’s taken a proper beating, it’s flaming difficult to restore.

Our Foals clawing their way back up the well of misery one hard step at a time is restoring mine.

Bloody brilliant to see.

Your reminder that the EU offered to freeze Brexit talks in 2020 so we could focus on Covid but Johnson said no. He then fucked up both: partying while 23,000 needlessly died & did a Brexit so shit the economic impact (-8% GDP) is worse than predictions he described as “the work of gloomsters”

I mean why TF is Gove a Lord now? He spent Covid plotting with Cummings and grifting his sorry arse off, having already lied himself inside out over Brexit - another reason our country is in such a mess.
He gets a peerage.
We get to pay for it all.
