In relation to Mark Carney:- “It was a bracing speech, but more than that, it was a brave act. It was the kind of act that Trumpism suggests does not exist, the kind of act that rebuts Trumpism by simply existing.”

Zack Polanski nails the art of politics in one sentence, which also explains why Labour under Starmer is dismally failing to engage the electorate.

I should have credited this: it’s from an interview with Polanski in the always excellent @bylinetimes.bsky.social newspaper by the brilliant Peter Jukes and Hardeep Matharu. Independent journalism at its best.

The press corps is so indifferent to religion it can’t recognize a religion story unless it’s rightwing evangelicals screaming about *their* religion story.
Where is our national press? The government has been shooting at and harassing clergy for months. This used to be a red line. The reality is their red line moved, not yours. They’re cowards.
ICE attacked an observer after they tailed a group of clergy on a spiritual pilgrimage.

Our digital producer @sam.vp just so happened to be with the clergy on their journey. He spoke with the observer who was attacked and others who witnessed the assault.

Has a comms strategy anywhere failed as badly as McSweeney’s?

That hardly looks sumptuous to me! When Mr Farage orders a proper dinner we expect foie gras (the real thing, not just pâté!), wren pie, antique muntjac vindaloo and giant bearded clams. Washed down with the finest wines known to humanity and excellent Montecristos. Please don’t exaggerate again.

And possibly Starmer lost the far more competent and knowledgeable Sue Gray due to the over reliance on McSweeney!!!

A policy that has attracted zero voters from Reform but has alienated those who thought we might see change under Labour. Time for McSweeney to bow out now.

The guy should get a medal. He’s trashed Labour’s natural support base, sunk them to a distant second or third in the polls and made Starmer the most unpopular PM in history all for the grand reward of 0% of Reform voters switching to Labour. Quite an achievement.

Great to see some renewed interest in Nigel Farage’s sumptuous lunches

How about this one when he launched a European Revolution with Steve Bannon, who was being backed by Jeffery Epstein all the time bylinetimes.com/2025/11/19/d...

Farage wouldn’t survive under scrutiny, why he threatens to sue.

Put his extravagant lifestyle, his dubious friends, his revenue streams, his real policies beyond selective soundbites, his voting history & attendance in House of Commons & his treacherous support for Trump & Putin in the headlines.

Blocking Andy Burnham from standing in Gorton would not only look terrible for Starmer but it would also risk handing the seat to Reform, which could be enough to tip Labour MPs over the edge

Blocking one of the few actually popular politicians left in the party, on the basis of naked self-interest looks terrible, particularly if Labour go on to lose the seat

Imagine if Cameron had done the same when Boris Johnson bid to leave City Hall for Westminster
Have asked a number of NEC members to tell me the chances Andy Burnham has of being selected to fight a by-election.

Every single one says zero.

He's the former Health Secretary, mayor of one of the UK's biggest cities and is currently the most popular Labour politician in the country.

Whatever you think of Burnham, he pretty easily clears the hurdle for candidate for a winnable Labour seat.
