Hi, I'm Saxxon. I also have been known as SaxxonPike, and I have written music as Sanxion7 for a long time now.

This is a personal account. Expect furry content, a lot. NSFW musings. Political, tech and music production ramblings. Blatant digital debauchery.

I'll have a Sanxion7 account soon.

The best part of how Portland is handling this is they’re not only protesting, but also angering the goose steppers by not taking them seriously.

Pretty genius. Because even ICE & the national guard don’t want to be displayed as that asshole fighting people in cute costumes.

Zone 66 was developed by a demoscene group (Renaissance) and they'd written their own memory management system that cannot coexist with any others, though that's about as much as I know.

I will add that with games that do support EMM386+SBEMU, you can run these on really modern systems with no issues at all, so long as your audio chipset is supported by the driver. Support is being added for new ones all the time, it seems.

For running games in pure DOS mode, yes. Many games will operate fine in "v86" mode (think EMM386/QEMM) so you could run it with something like SBEMU for sound output on more modern chipsets. Games that pitch a fit when using a memory manager (like Zone 66) are pretty much out, though.

(I should say, available for *Windows 98* which is an important distinction)

I played some DOS games on a Core 2 and, barring sound support, it worked out okay. I've got an Asrock 775i65g motherboard for that purpose- Intel 865 drivers are available for Windows and AGP cards seem to work fine on it. But that is a very niche configuration.

This is the kind of thing that makes me glad our instance is still somewhat small numbers-wise. I dread to think what moderating a larger instance would be like.

These days malicious stuff in ZZT worlds is less of a concern as almost everyone who is playing worlds nowadays does it within some kind of virtual machine (Zeta, Dosbox, PCem, etc.) but it might be a problem for anyone running real machines (me)

ACE opens up a lot of possibilities on an emulated DOS machine, but as you pretty much have complete control over the system, it could be used nefariously too. It's a can of worms I have been a little hesitant to open.

Correcting for this was specifically the reason for a re-do of Roton. At some point I wanted to be able to emulate more quirks that required intentional out-of-bounds array access, which requires that you emulate the precise memory layout. I once had plans to abuse this for an ACE exploit.

Thinking again about how in a game for ZZT called "Mission: Enigma" the author had to correct for a bug in the engine that caused commands to be skipped when objects were deleted sometimes. Without emulating the bug, the door during the first screen opens one too many tiles.

It's not even about the feelings I have about AI, just that as a longtime software dev I understand the pitfalls of introducing a technology solely because it's being paid for
saxxon.bsky.social
Fucks sake, I knew this was going to be a thing once my company started paying for AI

I got a message from work saying my usage of Copilot was "low" on the report, they seem to think that I would be more productive if I used it more

This might suggest that the artist may have thought to start a presence here, but there's no content there: bsky.app/profile/nama...

Know what, in between the fun that comes with the cocktail I've been prescribed to drink today, I might try to make progress on the next single. I have like. 3 or 4 more tracks that are 90% ready to go
