Hi, I'm Saxxon. I also have been known as SaxxonPike, and I have written music as Sanxion7 for a long time now.

This is a personal account. Expect furry content, a lot. NSFW musings. Political, tech and music production ramblings. Blatant digital debauchery.

I'll have a Sanxion7 account soon.

Hello friends! I made a new skybox made from 100% original mesh that's highly customizable and low land impact - perfect as a starter skyhome for new #SecondLife users or as a cozy little getaway in the sky!
Both versions included and rezzed @ my IW store!

And in Stemulus, you can use alternative layouts to put the foot pedal notes on the left or right side, along with placing the scratch notes in a similar manner.

Canโ€™t wait to have a public test release.

It also helps that there is a very capable chart conversion engine behind RhythmCodex. It didnโ€™t have foot pedal support before this though. Does now~

This would ordinarily have been a much longer process than just one night. Any substantial part of what I needed, I already wrote in Scharfrichter years ago. For some games, RhythmCodex is only catching up. For most games, it already does it better.
Whipped up a conversion for beatmania III so now we got foot pedal action.

I think I found a volume curve I'm happy with. It's different than what is used with MAME, but using a similar algorithm to what the Yamaha OPL3-SA3 chip datasheet says (the YMZ280B is also a Yamaha part)

this post becomes far more hilarious than it was intended to be when you consider the original version and its current context

On Firebeat? No clue.

The YMZ280B datasheet kinda sucks, but it seems Yamaha has used the term "Total Level" in a couple other products, so I figured it could very likely be a similar curve, just with a greater number of individual levels (higher precision). In this video I'm rendering on a volume scale of -24dB/64.

I did a bit of that myself wayyyy back when I did OJN2BMS, but it was not nearly as complete. That turned out to be a real good resource. I probably wouldn't have gotten the shuffle function back then. That one was the nastiest. In later files they just used the "nami" method anyway so it was moot

#C64 #Kouyate #RPG progress: before working on the fire and lava dungeon, decided to extend the Dwarven mines a little, so worked on that this evening and got it hooked into the game. Basically, there's now a back entrance to the mines that leads else where in the world...๐Ÿค” Oh, let me show you...

โ€œSecond best time is now,โ€ so it goes.

Yeah, Iโ€™d really like to stick to formats that are already in use if possible. Otherwise somebody out thereโ€™s going to have to write yet another text parser for a format thatโ€™s used for one specific purpose. Iโ€™d consider extending it.

Iโ€™m considering how BMSON might handle beatmania III footpedals.
February 9, 2026 at 8:19 PM
And while Iโ€™m thinking about rhythm games still, I also added OJN import to Stemulus (thanks @wyrmin.xyz for Raindrop source, it was really useful for the file format information)

I was on the fence about supporting โ€œofficialโ€ formats but Iโ€™m pretty sure they arenโ€™t in use anymore for decades.
February 9, 2026 at 8:11 PM
Maybe I need to support it in Stemulus. Wonder what would be a good format for these charts if I convert them. Stepmania? BMS? I only played DMX a couple times and hardly remember anything about it from a reverse engineering perspective.

Itโ€™s going to be an exciting year for rhythm game archaeology, I think.

Oh also, I havenโ€™t done anything with all this Dance Praise stuff that I converted a few years back. Maybe I need to put that out. Thereโ€™s like a thousand songs in that thing. The audio encryption was super easy.

A lot of the findings on TCRF for older DDR games came from my own tooling. Konami left a lot of unused and beta assets in their DDR games. So maybe weโ€™ll find some fun things in the other series?
February 9, 2026 at 8:02 PM
Also Iโ€™m completely neglecting other series that could use some love. GuitarFreaks, Drummania, KeyboardMania. I think somebody wanted me to look at DanceManiax and ParaParaParadise at some point too. Thereโ€™s a lot to discover yet.
February 9, 2026 at 8:01 PM
Once Iโ€™m done with these Iโ€™ll have to tackle the Python platformโ€ฆ really not looking forward to it given how tricky doing anything with DDR SuperNova was (if I recall - it has been a really long time since, and I might have better luck now). I donโ€™t know the PS2 like other folks do.
February 9, 2026 at 7:59 PM
Twinkle platform is pretty much 95% there- I have some doubt about volume calculation in MAME for the sound chip, so Iโ€™m not going to go forward with packs there just yet. Only IIDX really uses this platform and a lot of community work has already been done on that game anyway, low priority for me.
February 9, 2026 at 7:56 PM
Firebeat is the next target platform this year- which will open up Beatmania III as well as later installments of Popn Music. The format of the former is already known; the latter still needs research. (I donโ€™t imagine itโ€™ll be too hard.)

I want to learn more Japanese to make this easier.
February 9, 2026 at 7:54 PM
Oh I forgot to say this number includes Popn music 1-3 (yes Iโ€™m doing those too) so the Beatmania number is definitely lower, but not by a huge margin.
