As researchers behind an Iowa water quality sensor program race to find a new funding source before money runs out and they're forced to pull the sensors from the state's rivers and streams, a nonprofit has launched a crowdsource campaign to try to keep the program afloat.

Chris' idea is probably the most equitable, but regardless – Iowa: we can pay for this. We elect leaders who choose not to. School vouchers, tax giveaways to the rich and corporations; a wholesale reconfiguration of us viewing ourselves as producers, not extractors.
If you're a governor candidate, here's an idea. see how much it would cost to get every water utility in the state below 5 mg/L nitrate, half the EPA standard. Educated guess would say it's <$1 billion. A 5% tax on commercial fertilizer for 10 years would pay for it.
