I think about things like this often lately. About the loss of family & the proximity of hate that has my grief soaring. I want so much to be able to have conversations & for things to be different. However, well, they likely won't happen outside of my writing. It sucks. Anyways, HBD Katie. Sigh.

My cousins on that side of the family (the gringo side), including her brother, all voted for the monstrosities happening. They endorse/d it. So while I would normally feel compelled to reach out on this day, I don't feel I can. One cousin might still be alive, but in my heart, they are both gone.

You see, the family I grew up around was much different from who I am today. That's fine in some ways but not in others. The last time I spoke to my cousin's brother, it was awful to say the least. It was when the protests & militarization of the National Guard started here in LA...

Today would have been a relative's birthday if she was still alive. Sadly, she died last year. She froze to death. I have thoughts on how it came to be, but that's neither here nor there. The thing is, she's gone. Her twin brother is still alive. I would call him, but... It's complicated.

God, I love our protesters in these colorful cities. The fuzz is comically getting properly fucked with in a ridiculous way. I'm not happy that folks are out there needing to fight, but I do love the ways several are doing it. It's fantastic to watch the trolling :)

On one hand, doing that little thing opened up some space here, which was really needed given how little of it there is in here.

On another, geezus fuck, there's so little space in here. The last space I was in was bigger than this apartment. I'm so thankful to be here, but... perspective. Woah.

It's a rough time here for several reasons. I was talking to a confidant who has been supportive during the storms. They backed three #boardgame Kickstarters for me & said, "You're not a failure."

In the game of life, I'm ever so thankful for the folks who care. They mean so much. It's no game.

I bought mac n' cheese recently & made some on an induction stove top since my buddy's landlord is a slum & hasn't fixed the stovetop here... or really any of the other things here.

I realized after I made it that I forgot to buy butter. Just ate it without it. It wasn't the worst, but meh.

FELT. Like my goodness. Editors hate when folks are in docs when they're in them & so do writers. I've been on both sides & if someone else is in the doc, I make a point to get out after seeing they're there because this is too real.

Roller derby is in a lot of places. Good for Milwaukee & this, but I don't associate it with it being there. Then again, I live in Los Angeles. We have one of the biggest derby communities in the US that I'm aware of. Roller derby is love all over though :)

I don't even need to read this to know that if someone in one of those positions doesn't know what on the record means, it's a fault of whoever they work for. A PR person who doesn't know that shouldn't have a job. They are not qualified. People just want an excuse to cry foul for saying bad stuff.

Sigh. It is not over there currently :( I am guessing it might be on Tabletop Simulator but my regular online folks don't play on there very much bc it's not as accessible as BGA :(
