It might or might not - it's all relative to traditions, and bear in mind that some traditions may have their own idea of "false visions" or similar. It's never a simple as what the believer believes.

Take the Pope's view of Medugorje for example

Lovely - thanks, I was unfamiliar with Medugorje!

You'd have to narrow down different kinds of "religious experience" and whether they entail specific claims and actions about the world, rather than being a general sense of wellbeing (or otherwise).

Interesting! I'm not opposed to that, and think getting clear about what religious or mystical experiences is helpful, but can I ask why you believe that? Could a general sense of wellbeing not count as a religious experience for some?

Do you remember the earlier version? I think it was a television movie. We read the book as kids.

On 10 grams of mushrooms I felt what can only be described as unconditional love and the sense that this was the true universal spirit. I was literally crying with joy. Was it a religious experience or just a massive serotonin dump…dunno, but I’ve been sober since and changed my life for the better🤷‍♂️

Is is the meditation, study, and honesty that you think contribute to it?

Yes, many. And as a longtime contemplative (meditator) and student of world religion, it's increasingly evident to me that honesty is the "path" to such experience. Put lyrically —

There's a miracle going on, there really is, and it's everything.
