What can we, as language scientists, be doing right now to combat the hateful (and incorrect) language ideology that the US government is pushing?

Especially as a sociolinguist, I feel a duty/calling to spread the word and combat linguistic prejudice, but I'm not sure practically how to do so 🗣💬

This looks exactly like what I was thinking of! A whole book might be a bit much to throw at the student, but I'm going to try get my hands on a copy of this to use it as a road map, since I am also not a conglanger. Thanks!

Does anyone know of good resources for conlanging? For a v. creative HS student that I'd like to help work through the process a little more methodically. I'm thinking smthg that introduces the ideas of phono inventory, typology of possible morph and syntax systems, etc. Thx! #linguistics #conlang

I can imagine exactly the chain of events where he's upset about a tweet like this and someone had to talk him down saying "No one's here to set a record. Just concentrate on not falling" and that's why he's parroting those same words back like a 3 year old.

In this spirit- I live on the Lower East Side in a community with folks that have been here their whole lives, some of which were definitely here when Labov did his work in the 60s.

I have access to this resource and would love to collect interviews, but would need some sort of funding. Ideas?

yes, thank you - i'd like news alerts/headlines about things that have already happened. Not that "might" happen or "could" happen. Especially the ones that are like "X is set to announce ___ at a conference today." Then f'in report on it once it's actually announced.
