To be considered measles-free, a country where an outbreak occurred must return to zero cases within 12 months. Notably, that deadline expires at the end of this month for Canada, while the United States has until January and Mexico until February.

In contrast, the New Mexico Department of Health on Sep 26 declared that the state’s measles outbreak, which began on February 14, is over. The state’s last cases were reported from Santa Fe County on August 14. The state recorded 100 cases, marking New Mexico’s first measles outbreak since 1996.
