Traveller, swimmer, and philosophy student wondering if consciousness can be explained using conventional physics. I am also into making friends with folks that love living in a peaceful democratic society. Constitution yes, cult of personality no.

The brain not only splits up visual spatial perception—processing what’s on our left in the right hemisphere and what’s on our right in the left hemisphere—it takes cognitive advantage of that. picower.mit.edu/news/how-and...
The how and why of the brain’s division across hemispheres
Why does the brain split visual spatial perception between its hemispheres? A new review examines the advantages and trade-offs, and how the brain ultimately makes vision feel seamless.

I made a ChatGPT image of how I am thinking about consciousness this semester. It is supposed to be about standing brains waves. Where beta waves encode concepts and gamma waves mental content creating a self generating autonomy. Does anybody get this?

Diversity or a single ethnicity? I pick Diversity.
Equity or Billionaire tax breaks? I pick Equity.
Inclusion or a dictator president? I pick Inclusion
DEI... it's what a democracy should be about.

This lecture by Earl Miller on consciousness at the 2024 ASU conference on consciousness was incredibly eye opening for me. Fascinating picture of mental content as bottom up traveling gamma waves modulated by top down beta waves. Check it out if you are into ToC.

Don't be confused by binary oppositions. People frame their mind this way, like weak versus strong men. I disagree. Our life is a rhythm, we become vulnerable when we lose someone we love, we feel joy playing with a friend. Thinking in terms of static strength loses the dynamics of being.

Pissing off the entire US scientific community is not a good idea. Trump wants people to become vulnerable so he can gain power over them. That's what bullies love. NSF funding is his way to make scientists vulnerable, next step exploit and bully them. This sucks! www.npr.org/sections/sho...
'Unprecedented': White House moves to control science funding worry researchers
If the Trump administration continues targeting DEI in science and seeking to slash funding, American science will look fundamentally different.
