What a delightful sight to see in the bike locker at work this morning: not one, not two, but three electric cargo bikes!

This morning, two weeks short of three years since I rode my new e-bike home from the bike shop, I rolled over 10,000 miles on the odometer!

In sprawling places like much of the US, bicycles are a fantastic compliment to transit for car free mobility.

I’m excited that BayWheels and SJ have added a bikeshare dock just outside the faregates of Berryessa/North San Jose BART Station, supplementing the dock a 7 minute walk from the station.

I embrace cycling as transportation, so prefer to ride in normal street clothing.

When I was in Amsterdam this summer, I was delighted to add a stylish tench coat to my wardrobe with nice touches for cycling, like a two-way zip, fold down cuffs, and pockets with magnetic closures!

Pet peeve: multi-use paths that are treated like optional recreational facilities, rather than critical transportation infrastructure that they actually are.

You know your train station needs better wayfinding signage when random strangers print out and tape up the signs that contain the information that disembarking riders actually need because the official signage is inadequate.

Do better Diridon Station!

Franklin likes to help out around the house! Yesterday he helped water the garden! 😂

Bus, train, and tram fares: $22.15

Bike share fares: $3.44

A day without driving in traffic or dealing with parking, a day where I can get work done during my commute and enjoy an evening in the city with dinner and a concert: Priceless

My daily bicycle commute on the San Francisco Bay Trail takes me past Moffett Field. I often see a variety of wildlife, but today was particularly special as I got to see this red tail hawk perched dramatically on the barbed wire fence surrounding the airfield!

There’s a lot to love about Parisian urbanism captured in this one image: microcars, on street EV charging, and two-way bike flow on an otherwise one-way street. Très bien!

As car drivers, we take destination wayfinding signs for granted.

In cities that take bicycles seriously, good wayfinding signs are part of a complete transportation system.

I’m happy to see San José add this sign at an intersection of major bike routes in my neighborhood!

Dropping off my vote for Anthony Tordillos (@anthonytordillos.bsky.social) by bicycle!

If are registered to vote in San José District 3, don’t forget to return your ballot by this Tuesday, June 24th!

I’m having a fancy omakase dinner with a friend in Menlo Park, so I hopped on a Bay Wheels bike to Diridon station, and now I’m riding in ease and comfort up the Peninsula.

I spent a week in Montréal admiring the bicycle transportation infrastructure from afoot, since my traveling companions had no interest in getting around by bike.

But last night I was on my own to return home after dinner, and the 8km ride was a great as I had come to expect!

Bravo Montréal!

San Jose has very ambitious goals to transition people towards getting around by bicycle, which is great for public and personal health, public and personal finance, and local and global air pollution.

Why isn’t San Jose doing more to encourage cycling?

Montréal has some of the best examples of street design I have seen in North America, including this street with lots of great features to provide dedicated and safe space for cyclists and pedestrians, in a right of way that is only about 18 m / 55’ wide. (Av des Pins E in The Plateau)

We opted for an easy dinner last night: delicious Korean bowls from Moonbowls at the Ruff Food ghost kitchen. This place is 99% a food delivery driver pickup spot, but it’s only 1½ miles from our house, so I saved time and money by picking it up myself, and got a pleasant bike ride in the bargain!

Japantown Farmer’s Market is my neighborhood farmer’s market, Saturday mornings, May to October. Despite having no on site car parking, it is always bustling. There is some nearby street parking, but I am always delighted to see how many of my neighbors arrive on foot, bicycle, and cargo bike!

Why do businesses keep choosing poorly designed bike racks and then compound the issue by locating them poorly?

I’m sure theses racks were advertised as having a 4 bike capacity each, but given the design and installation location, it was difficult to park even three bikes here.

Yet another reason I love getting around my bicycle: you can usually get a parking space like this!
