Interesting new working paper that studies chains of movers after the construction of a new apartment building in Honolulu.

Paper finds that the project resulted in the opening up other, lower cost, housing on the island, benefiting the housing market overall.

If Zohran’s true odds are better than what is priced in the prediction market, then you can make money by buying Zohran shares.
Are the betting markets doing these pumps for profit or for political reasons? It actually doesn't matter! But probably both.

Even though nobody wears bike helmets in the Netherlands, the fatality rate there is significantly smaller than that of the United States. What have they figured out that we haven't?
How I Learned to Cycle Like a Dutchman
In the bike-friendly Netherlands, cyclists speed down the road without fearing cars. For an American, the prospect is thrilling—and terrifying.

What mandatory parking requirements do:

Drive up housing and construction costs
Limit the kinds of homes we can build
Spread out our neighborhoods
Burden local governments with infrastructure that never pays for itself.

Bluesky is a site explicitly founded by cryptocurrency libertarians with the idea that it would be a decentralized platform where users would be free to choose the open-source moderation and algorithmic feed tools they wanted, and by accident acquired a power userbase that hates all of those things.
Are people mad at the Bluesky ceo for a real reason or an internet madness reason?

This is not a joke. This is not normal.

@micah541.bsky.social do you agree with the analysis in this post on selfish mining? It suggests selfish mining is not profitable until the miner controls 33% of total hash power.

Where does the 33.33% threshold for selfish mining come from?
Clara Shikhelman and i went through the maths of the 2013 research paper “Majority is not enough”. Selfish mining is often ill-understood, and the paper goes quickly over some of the calculations. So ...

Hello frens: does anyone know if it is possible to run a Bluesky PDS node on a server that already has a website running on ports 80 and 443? In other words, can I select a custom port for AT proto or does it have to be 80/443? Ty @atproto.com @atprotocol.dev

Hi @katmabu.bsky.social I was wondering if you have commented on cryptocurrencies?

In particular, what is your opinion on whether people should have the right to self-custody their own coins and “be their own bank?”

Thanks!

The truck used in the New Orleans terrorist attack is a Ford F-150 Lightning, which is perfectly designed for this kind of attack.

It weighs more than 6000 lbs, accelerates to 60 mph in just 4 seconds, and the battering-ram-shaped front is nearly 5 feet tall. Deadly by design.

Regular, moderate exercise like walking and biking are the closest thing we have to a health panacea. US city and road design has made walking and biking impractical, unpleasant and dangerous in much of the country. Changing this would save *$billions* in healthcare *and transportation* costs.
