George Pérez's sense of design was extraordinary; he could juggle figures, faces and shapes with ease, creating page designs like no other cartoonist. 2/2

Doctor Strange enters a glowing dimension in Infinity Gauntlet #1. Art by George Pérez.

I get a little annoyed when people only praise George Pérez for being able to draw a hundred superheroes in a panel. His abilities extended far further than simple detail. 1/2

I was really not prepared for that ending. Loved it!

I’m not the only bookseller with horror stories of emboldened customers waving a brick of a hardback in our faces, declaring they can get it for half the price in the supermarket down the road, says Mark Wright in our recent Comment piece 👇 #BookSky

Victim of the best Tom Baker burn ever, in Part One of the Logopolis commentary:

Bidmead: What did you think, Tom?

Baker: I just can't believe 25 minutes could last so long.

I've been watching Timeslip, a sci-fi show I can still remember seeing as a kid. Some terrific Future Clothes on display in the Icebox segment (it's set in 1990). John Barron makes a lot of bold (some might even say brave) acting choices in this one.

It’s been years since I read 1964’s Amazing Spider-Man Annual #1. Crikey but Steve Ditko was at the top of his game. Visually, I can’t help but believe it’s the definitive Spidey. If such a thing exists, it exists here. (*1)

*1: Other opinions are readily available.

In this panel he does the opposite; an extreme perspective shot that focuses on the distance in height between Spidey and the thugs. 2/2

Spider-Man drops some webbing on some crooks far below him. Steve Ditko art from Amazing Spider-Man #34.
scott1gray.bsky.social
Steve Ditko was so completely in control of his storytelling; every shot had a distinct purpose. In this panel he flattens out the setting, making it virtually two-dimensional to give us a clear understanding that Spider-Man is alone in the room. 1/2

Spidey balances on a stair rail in an abandoned room. Steve Ditko art from Amazing Spider-Man #34.

Learning just because you want to learn, not as the means of getting a career is perfectly acceptable. I loved doing my English Literature degree, it taught me critical thinking, analysis and so much about life. I have no regrets. Those are the things they fear.

How is this repeatedly made into a policy issue - by *all* parties - when the blunt fact of the matter is that grown adults who are obliged to pay for their own education, and relentlessly pursued to repay their loans, should be able to study whatever the fuck they want.

Poorly educated people vote right-wing, so it's in every right-wing politician's interest to keep as many people poorly educated as possible.

It’s weird how often ‘we’ll cut spending!’ Is a major political selling point, and how often voters think ‘yes, love that for us’. ‘Would you like us to slash funding to all of these things that make your life easier and more pleasant? Vote for us!’
