Probably deadline because there’s no advantage to announcing early, plus the rumors that they’re trying to trade Heim and Garcia would indicate last-minute announcements.

AFL performances should be taken with grains of salt, but also, Malcolm Moore was bad. Had a league-avg. hard-hit rate but concentrated in 95-99 range, upper-level velo lagged. Also a 68% strike rate in a league full of wildness, including 72% on non-fastballs. 23% SS, 39% whiff on non-FBs. Eep.

You didn't miss anything. MLB's last two "tough decision" articles appear to have been based mostly on pre-season prospect rankings, signing bonuses, past notoriety. There's a worthy article in that, but it's NOT the same thing as a tough decision.

The AFL reached a new level of awfulness in terms of control. 58.6% strike rate! 17.1% combined BB and HBP!

I think I’ve talked myself into thinking Ortiz is a go, and the tougher decisions are Cauley and Lopez.

Last year’s “toughest” choice was RHP Aidan Curry, probably because he was ranked in the high teens on the early-season Pipeline prospect list. His 2024 was dismal though, and I had him 14th on my list and probably only listed him at all to respond to that Pipeline article.
