The issue is compounded by USPS decision to shrink the number of distribution centers, impacting rural communities the most.This is concerning as currently 16 states allow mail in ballots to be counted if they are postmarked by election day and received within a certain number of days.President Trump has repeatedly said he would like to end the vote by mail program and has expressed interest in issuing an executive order on the matter.It’s no surprise, then, that the majority of mail votes swing Democratic.Around 30% of votes cast in the 2024 election were cast via mail, and at least 725,000 of those were postmarked on election day.
