Parents Paul and Andrea Burke, of Portskewett, Monmouthshire, said their daughter was "traumatised" after being taken in "leg chains, waist chains and handcuffs".

We have nearly a decade of that same heartbreak at our rift with Europe. America’s betrayal is finally helping us rebuild the bridges we burned. But god, what a high price we all pay for the power games of corrupt, populist authoritarians.

It's madness. Starmer is trying to win over a segment of the population as if the GE is tomorrow, instead of making decisions that will improve things enough that in 4 years he can say to them: look - you're better off than before. That's how you win them over - not by trying to out-Reform Reform.

Wish there were some UK politicians saying this as clearly. #Canada is our friend and ally and much of the Canadian blood that has been spilt over the centuries has been for us in UK. We even currently share the same Head of State. Putin’s attempt at division of NATO is being led by Trump & USA.
There is no nation on the planet that has spilled more blood per capita defending other people's right to live in peace and democracy than Canada.
Americans are in for a massive economic shock when Canada pushes back.
We will never give in.

One striking thing about NHS Continuing Healthcare (which is only subject to a needs test, and not a financial means test) is the variation across areas -- despite a national framework. In Q1 2024/25, 9% of applicants in Herefordshire and Worcestershire were found eligible. In Dorset, it was 34%.
NHS Continuing Healthcare (CHC) funding is supposed to cover care costs for people deemed to have a primary health need, but is notoriously difficult to secure - likely due to tight budgets and the ensuing struggle between health and social care as to who is responsible for care costs

Terrible. So many husbands, boyfriends, even brothers & sons are killers.
What is behind this?

These findings show just how much carers contribute to our society, but also how hard it is for carers to get the support they need.

The government now needs to fully recognise the critical role carers play and end the years of neglect under the Conservatives.

All of that "you might not like Starmer's migration rhetoric but it's smart politics" punditry misses the fact that it isn't ever only rhetoric... this is the sort of policy, and the sort of attitude among people dispensing state resources, that results.
Reporting on people the state makes destitute via NRPF is one of the most distressing things I've done as a journalist, but this is truly disgusting - a child who died after being denied foster care by her local council because of her mother's immigration status. www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2024...
