There is some tough maths in it, mind you, but the authors say "you may wish to skip over the math in some of the following sections … knowledge of the detailed mathematics is not necessary in order to understand the remainder of the book. … Don't be discouraged!

That was exactly my reaction when I discovered my copy in a remaindered bookshop — the 2nd edition had just come out, so previous edition was suddenly super cheap.

I hadn't been recommended it — the title made it jump out, and the pace of the opening chapter was exactly what I'd always wanted …

It would have been far too fine for any of the previous fur-havers who lived here, but it's perfect for the current cohabitant.

I think the secret is that it doesn't snag because the teeth are so thin and weedy-looking compared to a traditional brush …

Now, at this point someone will suggest a de-matting rake.

Alas, if the coat has become sufficiently matted to need one of these, your pet will not enjoy the experience.

And if your pet is a 35kg husky/GSD cross, you will enjoy it even less. The secret is daily brushing to prevent this sitch.

Lifelong dog person here. Always brushed mine immediately on return from main walk of the day with a pin brush.

They're brilliant if you have a long-haired pet - they detangle, remove dried mud, and — more importantly — loose -undercoat. (Rounded bobbles on ends of the pins make them comfortable).
