while researching the rubygems takeover situation, I ended up on the blog of someone who insists on using AI header images, and now instead of engaging with the actual post I’m stuck on “why is there a puppy on the table? WHY do the evil corporate overlords holding a sinister meeting have a […]

For today's journey of mine to Aberystwyth 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 from my home in Ilfracombe 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿, I thought it would be fun to do a #crossborderrail travelogue in the style of @[email protected]. After all, the route does involve three border crossings - albeit just weaving back and forth between a kingdom […]

I’m not a fan of doing this but it is for a good cause.

Hi, as you might know blahaj.social :blahaj: is a small vulunteer ran incomeless part of the fediverse :blobhaj_hearthug:
We built it several years ago with recycled servers and network equipment.

Our […]

@webmink I think it's also worth noting that the Bluesky-Fediverse bridge will only copy fully-public messages. This means that if one makes an 'unlisted' reply on the Fediverse to a post originally made on Bluesky (which would usually be the polite thing to do on the Fediverse), that response […]

#accordion restoration log ~~stardate~~ 15th of September, 2025. Here's a recording of my Laguna piano accordion in its current, pre-restored state; I have not opened it up yet.

First, I go through each of the 31 treble keys twice from lowest to highest, first expanding the bellows and then […]

My #accordion has arrived! It looks great, and apart from a couple of chips on the corners of its laminate covering it's in good condition. I've given it a clean and the white keys are already gleaming. The bellows only have a couple of small holes […]

Only 24 hours after asking, I now have a likely candidate for my ancestor's birthplace (Mengeringhausen in Hessen) and lots of resources to follow up on!

Thank you so much, @PostcardsFromParadise, @ForgottenHero, @jonasm, @JonasJRichter, @Isaim, @jze and everyone who boosted or otherwise shared […]

Calling #genealogy and cursive #handwriting experts for help identifying a place name from one small section of a Victorian-era English census record! I know that one of my ancestors came from Aachen, and married a German man who probably also came […]

Is it possible to make a post on the Fediverse which:

* is publicly viewable to all,

* doesn't _necessarily_ get delivered to my followers' timelines, and

* is delivered to everyone following a particular hashtag?

I have lots of interests and would like to toot more about them […]

@smolrobots I just broke one of my case's wheels clean off whilst trying to drag it over a tram line :( I think there may be demand for a 'luggagebot' that lifts your cases over small obstructions like rails, kerbs and cobblestones!

The UK's national drought group is falling ridiculously short when recommending to delete old emails. How about

- stop building any new data centers, progressively tax on their size and resource consumption, no free riding

- legislatively focus on software to become more resource efficient […]

[Public transport rant]

I'm going to Sheffield, and on the surface it seems like it has everything a public transport enthusiast might want... Trains! Trams! Buses! They have a concessionary scheme where anyone under a certain age can get 15% off tickets. A reloadable smartcard costs £1 on top […]
