I am currently off work due to a mental health ‘blip’ but am finding making advent stars extremely calming. Much easier than it looks!

No fancy calendar of tiny things I don’t need this year, but a pretty German folding card sun revealing a ‘stained glass’ style illuminated panel. Best of all it starts today, which is also St Catherine’s Day.

Went for a walk today. Spotted these, among many other types of mushroom. Thrilled!
A large and a small fly agaric mushroom stand among mulched brown pine needles and fallen leaves. The largest stands tall with a wide red umbrella, covered in small white spots. The smaller is more compact with a hood of red with white spots.

I am obsessed with Caron Ellis and with the Moon. Then this existed.

Saw this excellent stick today. I didn’t disturb it as the fungus blooming like cherry blossom looked so perfect. A truly fantastic stick.
Against a backdrop of fallen autumn leaves on a forest floor lies a stick with a central branch bit and two arms shooting out in a v shape. The stick is brown and quite old, on the stick several fungus have bloomed like cherry blossom. They are in an irregular round floral shape, palest beige with light brown markings.

A few photos from our European/Scandinavian road trip

Worked in Harborne today. This is ‘Mr Crowley’ the Bull. RIP Ozzy.
Birmingham has commissioned ‘Bulls in the City’ a trial of decorated Birmingham Bulls based on the sculpture that stands outside the bullring. This picture shows ‘Mr Crowley’, decorated on the theme of Ozzy Osborne. It is a relatively small bull sculpture sitting on a plinth. The bull is deep grey with pink and purple flames on its legs and hooves. On its side is a cameo brooch style portrait of Ozzy Osborne in a purple jacket on a pink background. He has long dark hair, round sunglasses, and is holding a cane. He has a happy expression on his face. Around the base of the bull are laid bunches of flowers from locals paying tribute to Ozzy.

It’s 10pm. It’s hot. I am mostly angry about iatrogenic harm today.

There are worse drinks to have when it’s 10pm and 28 degrees. For fans of cherry things this is very very nice. For fellow tee totallers, this would make a nice ‘posh pop’.

Went to the actual birthplace of the Industrial Revolution yesterday, to see Abraham Darby’s furnace. A weird kind of pilgrimage. Changed the world.

If you need cheering up- I had a slight cake fail but I think the wonkiness makes it tbh. For my youngest who turns 12 tomorrow.
A very homemade ‘Jellycat cat cake’ real cake sits on top of a silver foil lined board. Two chocolate legs stick out from two tiers of vanilla sponge sandwiched with buttercream. On top is buttercream and multicoloured sprinkles. In black icing on the bottom tier, two eyes and a smile are picked out in black icing. An attempt was made.

Manics at Wolves Civic Hall last night. A setlist which would have made the teenage me there every week in the 90s very happy (and the 44 year old me happy too). Great company as ever from @sarahmorse.bsky.social
