Unfortunately, in US journalism it is considered neutral to spread a lie, but it is considered "biased" to call out a lie. So, there is a structural asymmetry that rewards colorful lies with virality.

Yeah, you’re right, it’s just convoluted to try to point at the thing without clearly saying the thing.

If we keep teaching kids to avoid the passive voice in high school essays, how will they ever grow up to be newspaper sub-editors and editors??

We have a family with 20 KIDS roaming the streets near us. Yet people only slow down if they’re literally standing in the street.
