The final night market at the Parkdale Market was tonight, very well-attended, and thanks to Tina and crew for inviting Natali Harea (Nat's Breads) and Sheila Whyte (Thyme & Again) and I to judge the second annual apple pie contest.

I’m at the Fisher Heights & Area Community Association’s AGM where I just learned that their new logo’s green outline is a rough depiction of the area’s borders: from Merivale, to Baseline, to Fisher, to Meadowlands.

This is one of my favourite fundraisers to attend. As the leaders & staff of Nelson House say, a shelter for women fleeing domestic violence is the kind of organization that didn’t have to exist. Glad to see it has such strong and passionate leadership, and to be there with so many colleagues.

Yes, the community association wrote to me about it. What a shame to see that happen.

Way to go, @lauradudas.bsky.social! My City Council colleague and her community pulled off quite an accomplishment today. The entire city should be grateful for this.

Today, the community came out in force to plant 1,000 trees. The weather was perfect and a community legacy was created. Here’s to a greener, stronger, and more connected Orléans West - Innes. Hats off to the kind of community that doesn’t just dream big—but shows up to make it happen.

Hi @policything.bsky.social, I reported this to Solid Waste Services a few days ago, and I just drove by the site now. It appears to have been cleaned up (unless I’m looking at the wrong location). Sorry for the mess on the first place. Thanks for reporting.

Scenic and beautiful Ward 9 Ottawa. Come marvel at the miles of broken sidewalks with asphalt patches, gaze in wonder at our modern art installation "permanent pylons" and partake in the joy of community littering. Progress and Pride, we're Ward 9 @seandevine9.bsky.social !

You should profile every Councillor whose vote you consider in limbo, or otherwise worthy of scrutiny.

“Culture eats strategy for breakfast,” as said by Alliance to End Homelessness Ottawa’s Katie Burkholder Harris at today’s joint committee meeting on Ottawa’s new Housing Acceleration Plan. We definitely need to address organizational culture in our city.

Here's the latest issue of our Ward 9 Newsletter, where I share my thoughts on Premier Ford's "fact-deficient" decision to cancel Automated Speed Enforcement, as well as the battle on how to get around our congested city. All that and much more! Thanks for reading. www.seandevine.ca/october_1_20...

This is why we want drivers to slow down.

(Typical injuries shown for the average adult. It’s even worse for kids.)

As a Director of the Ottawa Film Office - and a former professional in Ottawa's film/TV - this news fills local production companies and workers with dread. Ottawa's and Canada's $8 billion film and TV industry get more than 50% of its investment from the US. www.ctvnews.ca/ottawa/artic...
Ottawa’s film industry on edge as Trump threatens 100% tariff on foreign films
Ottawa’s booming film industry is bracing for uncertainty after U.S President Donald Trump threatened to impose a 100% tariff on all films made outside the United States.

Glad to see my counterparts in Hamilton & across Ontario pushing back against the insanity emanating from Premier Ford's fact-deficient stance on Automated Speed Enforcement. As folks like @sjamieit.bsky.social and others have shown over and over: these cameras work. This is the Ottawa data.

One of the affected watermains will be shut off Sat, Oct 4th between 1:00am – 7:00am.

Residents and travelers will experience traffic impacts at the intersection and should follow posted detours. Portable message boards will be installed, and nearby businesses have been notified.

- Traffic control and road closures will begin on Thu, Oct 2nd.

In the graphic above, work is happening at the intersection of Merivale Rd. And Burris Ln. (the blue section) and then work will proceed northwards on Merivale Rd. Towards Baseline Rd. (the orange section). Here is an overview of the timeline for construction and traffic closures: 3/

While this work will no doubt cause inconveniences, and notices to affected residents and businesses may be coming fast than is normally required, our office is looking to avoid any of the recent watermain breaks that have caused significant damage in Kanata and Orleans. 2/

The City will begin an emergency repair to a sanitary sewer on Merivale Road, with work starting later this week. This urgent work has been expedited due to the severity of the issue and the need to complete it before colder weather. 1/

Thank you Mayor Sutcliffe, MPP Tyler Watt, Councillors Laura Dudas & David Hill, former Councillor Keith Egli, Shannon Bruce from United Way East Ontario, TACA, Ottawa Caledonian, public artist Jennifer Anne Kelly, poet Gina Radic, performer Barb O'Connor, and my team for such a great event!

Before I was councillor, and at the time of the tornado, I was President of the Trend Arlington Community Association. It was great to see my successors, Lydia Pion and Patrick Fiori, get their own recognition for their work in getting the Pavilion and the public art ReWilding completed. 5/
seandevine9.bsky.social
Our new Pavilion is as beautiful and strong as the community that it was built for, and it was my honor to speak to the residents of Trend Arlington, including my own family, and to have Mayor Sutcliffe and other special guests speak be there with us. 4/

For last night's event, I got the same bagpipe band, Ottawa Caledonian Pipes & Drums, to once again lead a procession through my community to an audience that was just as pleasantly surprised as they were seven years ago. But this time, the procession was led by Mayor Mark Sutcliffe. 3/

On September 21, 2018, the tornado hit our community. One month after that event, I held a ceremony in Bruce Pit where the tornado struck. For that ceremony, I had a bagpipe band hidden in the woods. They led my surprised community on a procession through our storm-battered neighborhood. 2/

Last night's Official Opening of the Trend Arlington Community Pavilion was a special experience for me, and for my own community of Trend Arlington. It's an event that was seven years in the making, and I had a few surprises in store for the hometown crowd. 1/ www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...
