I don't understand why you'd want to drag Madonna when you could instead be spending your time enjoying decades of stone-cold fucking bangers.

And also if more commentators didn't start their careers in the pre-streaming era and were more curious. On a tangent I was listening to the new Pink Pantheress remix album earlier and it's the kind of pure fun that a bunch of middle-aged male music journalists seem to think doesn't happen anymore.

Yeah, I really don't have enough knowledge to even contemplate record shopping in the flea markets of Athens or whatever so these are like little mini adventures.

Always enjoy these, but this @joemuggs.bsky.social interview with @kaylapainter.bsky.social is particularly good. It can be quite depressing looking at how music is pricing everyone out of all parts of it, but then conversations about DIY scenes you're nowhere near give a bit of hope back.

I love ones with decent liner notes where you get to feel like you're going record shopping with the person who's put it together. Comps like this definitely changed things.

Such a brilliant comp. April Fools by Isis and Yesterday's Folks by US 69 were staples of my very occasional forays into playing out back in the day. Hippies always brings a smile to my face too.

Fun music game.

Take two songs with the same name and post your combined score out of 10. How high can you get?

No covers/no triples (e.g. Power of Love)

My first effort, which i think is hard to beat...

Zombie (Fela Kuti) 10/10
Zombie (The Cranberries) 7/10

Total score: 17

Back on the Internet airways again tomorrow with some rustic radio stuff. I might be a bit shit, but the music will be good. Link for catcher uppers on Monday www.lovewillsavetheday.fm

Airways are the bits between the airwaves, it's all good 👍

In today's episode of turning anything into a toy, the dog has arrived in his new home from kennels and is triumphantly running around with a plunger.

You mean he killed a man in Moscow just to watch him die?

Ah, happy 88th anniversary of the day Oswald Mosley tried to sell fascism to Liverpudlians – and someone concussed him with a brick
A man in a suit stands at a microphone which has been mounted on the roof of a van. There are loudspeakers at his feet, and a building behind him. He has an arm raised, and is flinching as projectiles are hurled at him, because he's a fucking Nazi

Maybe pay that if it was the Green Door Store.

It's bad enough that being a musician is becoming a preserve of the middle classes but if you can't even get into the cheap seats for a day on minimum wage then everything is fucked. I paid £22.50 to see U2 in 1993 which was half a day's supermarket salary (or 2.5 hours Sunday double pay)

P.S keep meaning to reply but if I'm not in Cardiff I'll be coming along.

You're definitely lowballing your Brighton show.

They had about 100 dancers and a backing band so hopefully everyone was getting paid. Also a bunch of the setworks were bespoke for a 4-night run so I'll let them off.
seanedmund.bsky.social
Funnily enough there's quite an internet wormhole you can do down to see what the custom kit they've built is. I think they might have been the first band to use laptops live. Even when I know what's going on I still find someone using a laptop odd.

I can understand £100ish for a stadium show but not for a 5,000 capacity indoor venue. I think I paid £75 for Pet Shop Boys at the Royal Opera House (went up to around £200) but you could see where the money was spent!

And yes, it is only one of them left - my favourite bit of the show is when the gig ends and he checks his watch to see if they've played for exactly 2hrs and he looks a bit disappointed with the audience if their cheers have pushed it a minute over schedule.

"Yeah I could have gone to that new Michelin star restaurant but you don't get the chance to spend this much money to chat through a band you'll never see again very often"

Thankfully they've now released extra floor seats for £187.95.
