The fact that I share a birth year with Mark Zuckerberg, Bari Weiss, JD Vance, Ben Shapiro, and Elizabeth Holmes makes me feel deeply cursed. The Year of the Rat indeed 🐀

In a city of world-class artists and production crew hunting for the next gig, Andrew Cuomo made a TV ad the same way he wrote his housing policy: with AI.

Then again, maybe a fake Cuomo is better than the real one?

Finally watching “The Pitt.” It’s an amazing show for a lot of reasons, but I specifically want to shout out its accurate, no-nonsense depiction of the doctors treating a type 1 diabetic for hypoglycemia. It’s so rare that TV and movies get even the basic facts right, let alone the minutiae.

If you've talked to me in the past few weeks, you know I can't shut up about "The Lowdown," Sterlin Harjo's new noir comedy set in Tulsa, OK. A killer cast led by a great Ethan Hawke in a show that combines compelling mystery with Harjo's deep affection for his hometown. My review for @avclub.com:
Sterlin Harjo and Ethan Hawke kill it in FX's comedy noir The Lowdown

Trans rights are not the rights of a tiny minority, trans rights are everyone’s rights to self-determination, control of our bodies, and a society where opportunity and aesthetics are not restricted by sex assigned at birth

You should support and defend trans people because trans people are people

Thinking about this passage from @jarodkanderson.bsky.social’s “Something in the Woods Loves You” as I continue my job search. When I was younger and journalism was less broken, I used to find a sense of purpose in my work, because it *meant* something to me. I don’t know the last time I felt that.

Ta-Nehasi Coates is doing a lot of things with this essay, but one of the most important is fearlessly using examples of anti-trans hate to describe Charlie Kirk's politics.

The contrast between his choices and those of other writers for major legacy outlets is revealing.
Charlie Kirk, Redeemed: A Political Class Finds Its Lost Cause
By ignoring the rhetoric and actions of the Turning Point USA founder, pundits and politicians are sanitizing his legacy.

Also last week I had to charge a new laptop on my credit card, and this morning I woke up to find out my debit card was hacked and also I have an ear infection. Can a depressed unemployed diabetic bitch catch a break?

I can’t afford therapy anymore, and I have to weigh the cost of buying so much as a coffee. And how am I supposed to have any drive to plan for the future when the world gets scarier and scarier with every passing day? (I know I’m not alone in that last one.)

Not to despair on main, but everything has been such an uphill climb lately: managing my diabetes, working up the energy to apply for jobs, begging my insurance company to cover my meds, trying to make ends meet without racking up more credit card debt. I’m so drained from playing life on hard mode.
