Or that they regarded the ceasefire as a suggestion. Like they had every time this happened.

Trump: "We took the freedom of speech away because that's been through the courts and the courts said you have freedom of speech, but what has happened is when they burn a flag it agitates and irritates crowds."

I think I remember reading that her adult kids are on Insurances from the Marketplace. So her turn is because her family will be affected by it, not by altruistic reasons.

Yep, and any other thing they want to do. They can't push for Constitutional Amendments I think, but with the SCOTUS siding with Trump, they don't need to. That is how bad our system is, close to broken.

60 votes are needed to close a debate on a bill and proceed to another vote to approve the bill or not. And that is only a Senate rule that they can decide to either set aside or get rid of it entirely with a simple majority(51).
seinenninja.bsky.social
Hell, they don't need Democrats present for the vote. Quorum(the amount needed to do any business in Congress), is set at a simple Majority. So they could close the doors to the Dems and simply go forward without them.

Legislation in the Senate only requires 50 votes. The filibuster is what raises the requirement to 60, and the filibuster isn't even part of the law. It's just rules agreed on in the Senate.

That's why they've been able to ignore it when they've wanted to.

Reopening the government only needs 50.
leliel13.bsky.social
I am not clear, I thought they needed 60?
Would that force-pass the cuts to Medicare and such?

Reminder as the Senate is set to vote again on re-opening the government that it is *entirely* within Republican ability to do so with zero Democratic votes.

The threshold is 50 votes, and they can simply set aside the filibuster for this vote if they so choose. They've done it before. Recently.

Hell, they don't need the Dems there. Quorum needs only a majority. So if the GOP were competent, they need all their members there and ram their legislation in.
seinenninja.bsky.social
...except the GOP can very easily bring Congress back in, change the Senate rules, and get their funding bill through. I understand the fight, however the Dems are basically benefitting from GOP stupidity.
seinenninja.bsky.social
Then you have no morals. If Trump ran as a Dem, you would be MAGA. Buy the hat.

The reason the Right are so invested in the myth that the arts have no value isn’t because the arts don’t generate wealth (they do); it’s that studying the arts teaches people to imagine better ways of judging the value of an idea than by counting how much money it makes…

And this justifies revelling in the misery of regular people, especially those that didn't vote for the GOP but live in a state that did? How Republican of you.

Hurting poor people in red states is not hurting just MAGA- this kind of smug analysis helps no one and is a huge reason why Democrats don’t win in the South.
Major racial and ethnic groups in Alabama also experience higher rates of poverty compared to poverty nationally. Among white residents, 11% live in poverty compared with 9% nationally. Among Black residents, one quarter live in poverty compared with 21% nationally. Among Latinx residents, one quarter live in poverty compared with 17% nationally, an 8-point variance.

Noooo, Democrats aren't smug and condescending. Why did you ask?

You know, it's hard to see that you don't like Trump when you are promoting guys that have the same principles as Trump, but in another country. Putin is shit, but the mistake was to promote the same person to replace him.

Speaking at a church, Jack Ciattarelli suggested he be called “big daddy” instead of governor if he wins:

“…his grandchildren do not call him grandpa. …They call him big daddy, and I was thinking when we win this race I kind of like that better than governor. Big daddy.”
