While bargaining delegates from union stores have reached tentative agreements on many key articles, a majority of partners have said Starbucks’ newest offer was simply NOT GOOD ENOUGH.

Starbucks just announced its plans for a significantly more conservative dress code. Instead of finalizing fair contracts with our union and addressing the actual issues at stores, such as understaffing and lack of guaranteed hours, Starbucks is choosing to waste time on policies that make stores less welcoming to both workers and customers. THIS NEW DRESS CODE HURTS PARTNERS. STARBUCKS WORKERS ARE RACIALLY DIVERSE, DISABLED, QUEER, AND TRANS. WE NEED A DRESS CODE THAT ALLOWS US TO SHOW UP AS OUR FULL SELVES AT WORK. 
Our union has been fighting for a contract that expands the dress code. This includes enshrining the CROWN act (which protects workers from racially motivated discrimination against hair textures). Meanwhile, Starbucks’ new dress code changes hurt workers. It restricts the gender expression of queer and trans workers, potentially forcing trans workers into dysphoria-inducing clothing. Workers who already struggle to pay their bills on Starbucks wages can’t afford to buy a brand-new wardrobe just to be in dress code.

UPDATE: Cops are continuing to be brought in to stop Starbucks workers and allies demanding the company settle fair contracts with workers.

Now, those participating in actions in Chicago are being arrested and led away by police. Shame on Starbucks!
