It does make a nice change when leaked whatsapp group messages show government MPs being privately better than they are in public; used to be very much the opposite.
EXCLUSIVE: Leaked WhatsApp messages show Labour MPs urging govt to leave X, arguing that it should "show direction to others in the UK"

The MPs said X owner Elon Musk is "fascist" and that the platform's AI tool, Grok, had put "children in harm's way"

Happy World Introvert Day to all those who don't celebrate, preferring to stay in and maybe read a book or take part in some other quiet activity.

That's the Christmas meal prepared. As well as the traditional test of the smoke alarm.

Thirty years ago today, on 18th September 1995, I started working at #psion. I was put on the "Protea" project: a new 32-bit PDA and a portable operating system written in C++ named EPOC32.
We didn't have hardware yet, but Colly Myers had implemented enough that we had a basic OS running on top […]

Rick Beato interview with Les Claypool went live yesterday. Managed to watch the beginning this morning, but now I'm at work, and out this evening. This is going to be a long day.

I looked in at a kiosque on the way to work, looking for a birthday card. A quick glance and it was clear that many of the cards were produced by generative AI. I walked away.

Evil laugh.
I'm imagining what would happen if hoards of #slackware users responded to this survey on dependency resolution in package managers...

(Probably best if we didn't.)

Shamim is running a survey to better understand how developers view dependency resolution of package managers. The hope is that this will help inform and improve package managers in the future. Please fill it out and share it: https://forms.cloud.microsoft/r/McbinF3Tnn?origin=lprLink

I've released version 0.3.8 of my WIP #psion Agenda-like "Pygenda" app targeting keyboard-equipped PDAs running Linux (e.g. #geminipda, #cosmocommunicator, #pinephone with keyboard).

The main additions this release are:
• Anniversaries – something that Psion […]

Uh-oh. An email from a private domain that was routed through Gmail failed to be delivered due to missing SPF/DKIM.
Previously Google added a "DKIM-Signature" header, but this time it only added an "X-Google-DKIM-Signature" header, so it was rejected by Yahoo's server.
I wonder if this is a sign […]

News channels somehow managing to cover a War Summit as if it were a Royal Wedding - both breathless and adding no insight.

This isn't a dig at Sky - have shopped around. They're all like this. "Oh what jolly fun this is!" seemingly oblivious to the actual stakes for an entire nation at war. ~AA

Skim-reading a review* of a bicycle. I haven't cycled in years, but I was thinking how nice it was that bike technology continues to advance even after ~200 years. Then I came to the bit about how the only way to know what gear the bike is in … is by a phone app.

* - this review […]

I’m profoundly sceptical of AI/LLMs and don’t/won’t use them myself, however my daughter who has SEN read me a long screed she had written to try to articulate some difficult feelings, and then she read me the same text having fed it through chatGPT, and I do see how it can help her.

I've just been challenged by a Captcha that refused to confirm I was a human unless I identified the image below as containing a pedestrian crossing. Unfortunately for future self-driving car passengers, the image shows the exclusion zone separating lanes on a major road, possibly a motorway.

I just upgraded my phone to LineageOS 22.2 (Android 15). Thanks to all the devs who do the ports to individual devices.

The ugrade had to be done with adb, but it was very smooth. I took a backup (obviously) but it wasn't needed and all the user data persisted.

Android 15 looks … just like […]

@marioguzman I really began programming on one of these, a Psion Series 3a. It was way too expensive for me but still bought one and loved it ❤️

It even had an Epoc OPL (object oriented language) manual in the box!
