🌲Size is not a barrier when they’re hunting - they can capture prey much larger than themselves, including rabbits, skunks, and even other birds of prey.
🌲Great horned owls have a distinctive hoot with a rhythmic pattern - (that’s our “hoo-h’HOO-hoo-hoo” joke)

🦉Hoo-h’HOO-hoo-hoo is ready for Monday?! The Great Horned Owl is one of our beloved forest friends. (The one pictured here is a baby!) Here are a few fun facts about this stealthy predator ⬇️

🌲Great horned owls can fly almost silently, making them impressive nighttime predators.

We found this hummingbird in the Santa Cruz Sandhills where other wildlife like bobcats and acorn woodpeckers that shelter in nearby Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park are known to seek food. These tiny birds are essential to the ecosystem of the redwood forest. #NationalHummingbirdDay

Butterflies are critical for redwood forests: as pollinators, they help to support plant species and are an important element of the food chain as prey for birds, bats and other insectivorous animals.🦋 #butterflies #redwoods
